SSN reporting that we’ve bid £15 million or so for James Trafford. A Man City academy graduate, he signed for Burnley last summer for about the same price but was eventually dropped after a less than impressive run of form. Previously he had impressed on loan at Bolton in League One and was also impressive when winning the U21 Euros with England alongside Anthony Gordon.
I think it would be fair to say we’re looking at his potential rather than current ability. 21 is very young for a keeper so he has time on his side. £15 million wouldn’t be a particularly big gamble but it would likely see Pope retain his number one status for at least another season, injury permitting.
.... I also like Raga's man Mamardashvili. Been watching a load of You Tube Dennis Wise style.
I am impressed with his reactions, agility, size and assertiveness.
What we're looking for in our next 'keeper *taps nose is someone who can play a high line-a sweeper keeper.
One of the main reasons for conceding so many goals last season was that Dubravka plays at least 10 yards further back than Pope, meaning that the defence had to drop further back, creating that hole in midfield which so many teams exploited.
I want the Georgian over Trafford personally.
I wouldn't be upset if we got him as said, we're buying potential but if we're spending money on a keeper, i'd rather get the Isaak of keepers.
We have to be in the market though - Karius gone, Dubs i'm 99.9% sure will be as well - he (understandably) wants to be a number 1.
I think the club are happy enough with Pope as a Number 1 and I'm not sure this Georgian lad is the ball-playing 'keeper we think Trafford will be in a couple of years.
I think Marmadashvili is a bridge too far due to us not having European football.
I'm not too convinced about Trafford but he is young and has massive potential so if we get him for a decent price then fair enough. Not 20 million though.
I hope we steer clear of Ramsdale. I don't particularly like him.
I dont like the idea of 15-20 GK investment either.
15-20 mill might be the difference between very good and world class CB or RW.
Spending that on a player who could spend entire season on a bench is the luxury we cant afford. I’d rather go for someone who doesnt have his potential ability included into the price. Someone experienced, proven
Wouldnt sign him he even lost his place at Burnley last season, that money needs spending on a quality keeper or not at all and use it for outfield signings.
