We have some very talented individual players but still not gelled completely as a team and remain far too defensive. Maybe if Watkins and Palmer had been on earlier it may have been a bit different but ultimately Spain were the better side and would very likely have won -and deservedly so- in any case.

Bit of a love-in for Southgate on both BBC and ITV but whilst I understand that there is a big difference between where England were when he first took over and what they have achieved in recent years and that credit must be given to him for this, it is equally true that the current crop of players at his disposal are also much better.

Given the latter, I still believe that it is valid to argue that they should have put in better performances in this tournament than they have done.and that his conservative tactics have been a large part of the problem. "Moment" teams may indeed manage success but great teams play with consistency, energy, fluidity and some attacking flair. Things that, despite the quality of many of our players, England showed far too rarely.

Yes. Prolific goal scorer, for so many years for both clubs and country, feel for him.

Surely he must win a title next season, FC Bayern München can’t miss out two seasons in a row?

It’s easy to comment with hindsight although I do tend to agree that Mainoo didn’t impress. In fairness the best side won the competition but England underperformed in general. I thought that we were a tad fortunate to reach the final. Overall, Southgate has done a good job in his time with England but I do feel that we now need a change.

Anyone care to argue the following 'stars' all under performed and that is why not only did we not win but also played badly.

Walker, Rice, Foden, Bellingham, Kane. I point the finger primarily at the players but with a chunk of their failure because failure it was at Southgate.
