    Technology eh?

Great when it works but not so good when it doesnt! Apparently caused by a minor update at Crowdstrike that wasn't properly vetted but, for me personally, this again shows the dangers of putting all our eggs into too few baskets and leaving us therefore very vulnerable.

Aside from all the dystopian concerns around our increasing reliance on such interlinked digital information and the (very valid) concerns over developments and usage of AI, imagine the potential havoc that could be caused by effective cyber attacks on the country and how much this would hamper our defences. I'd like to think that the really critical things had a "hard copy" back up but somehow doubt it.

I’ve seen a huge drop in business today.

Our website will be down by 50% today.

We’ve just had an email saying that Stripe payments are being badly hit by this and that’s why we are hurting so much.

It’s bloody ridiculous that a simple software issue causes this, in this day and age it shouldn’t be possible, they should be doing more testing before launching.

I have read that the cause is likely to be a single line of erroneous code; really? Well, it may be true but would it ever be admitted that such a widespread impact was, in fact, the result of a Russian cyber attack? Our governments do not always tell the truth! I read quite a while ago that the next war would begin with a massive cyber attack………

It won’t happen in the next few days, though, there is a Test Match on!

Despite Crowdstrike admitting responsibility for the error, I assume that the chances of getting any kind of compensation back from them to cover loss of earnings etc would be both a highly convoluted process and nigh on impossible?

My concerns exactly. Fine, when they work but when they don’t - big problems!

Shocking news! My younger daughter is representing GBR in a gymnastics tournament and now stuck in Bergen for an extra two days. Her group range from 11 years to 16.

Someone clearly didn't follow the principles of regression testing, test in a sandbox and then in live with a few users & dedicated support - then and only then deploy if all is well.

I am reliably informed that organisations using AWS for example were ok as the data sits in datacentres, not the case for cloud services.

BTW I learned this week that when you subscribe to something with our email if you insert "+xxxx" before the @, where xxxx is any word you choose you can see which company has sold your data when you start getting emails addressed to the above styled email.

Don't have to worry about who has the most bombs and rockets anymore. Its who has the best IT brains. It will be them that f*ck countries up, no need to destroy the infrastructure.

I’ve heard it mentioned that water is an easy target for anyone who wants to fk up a country.

You just poison a few reservoirs.

Electricity is the other thing, everything collapses if you can’t get it.

The other thing to cause a meltdown across the nation is to cut off SKY Sports.
