    Hi Soulman,
My Dad remembers watching Mathews play in the mid-late 50s when he was with Blackpool and always says that even at his age he was still really quite fit and retained his famed ability to dribble with the ball so that no one seemed to be able to get it off him!

As they said about the Harry Enfield character, Charles Charlie Charles: "Its as if the ball is glued to his boot!"😁

Remember being excited at the prospect of going to the Hawthorns and seeing Matthews playing for Blackpool in the late 50s. That was until he ran into Maurice Setters (Albion's animal of a defender at that time) in the early minutes. He didn't feature much after that!

As a youth, I remember travelling from Leominster up to Wolverhampton, not so easy in those days, just to see Matthews play for Blackpool v. Wolves. He was rarely injured but he was for this game so I never did see him play.
