Romared Match Thoughts Barnsley v Mansfield Town

Animal won't be watching the season's opener as it clashes with
Wakefield Trinity at home to the Sheffield Eagles on Friday night and I'll be at Belle Vue .

In fact I probably won't be watching too many of our games this season due to total lack of interest .

Happy enough to start these matchday threads and put a bit of background to the games but I probably won't be contributing too much as a consequence of not watching the games .

Mansfield Town were a regular at Oakwell when I was a kid first cutting my teeth on the terraces in the 70's but not too much since the very early 80's .

I think with the momentum of a promotion last season and backed by a very large travelling contingent from Nottinghamshire apparently this could be a tough opening night for the reds .

Will it be a repeat of the 7-0 thrashing of Port Vale on the opening day of last season ?

Neill Collins was hailed as a hero, new signing Dallas notched his first goal, we went top of the league and automatic promotion was nailed on. At the end of the season that win and the plus seven goal difference meant we hung onto the 6th place Play Off spot. If we had lost that opening game we would have finished 8th below Lincoln and Blackpool.

The league table doesn't take shape until about ten games in but a good start is important.

    It’s live on Sky Florida.
Personally I think we will be lucky to get a draw? Mansfield were solid last season, however they have kept relatively the same squad together, I watched them a bit last season on telly and they look like a good cohesive team, whether they can do that a league up is another thing, but they were 2nd top scorers, with the best defence in league 2.
We have a relatively untested keeper at league 1 level, a half decent defence, what looks like a good midfield and less said about the strike force the better, it’s ok having a midfield that puts good crosses in but if your strikers are not up to it then the ball won’t find the net!
I think if we score it is most likely gonna come from a defender off a set piece.
Just hoping we don’t get a Lincoln battering live on sky?

Think it is on sky but I cant see it listed on any of the channels.

Maybe its a red button broadcast.

Mansfield will be up for this one and I hear that they will be followed by more than 4000 travelling fans, giving them great backing. I think they will want to show that they are up to this division/

They wont be facing a full strength Reds team as we currently dont have a senior keeper of any forwards that you could realistically call a strike force. I cant understand why we face the prospect of playing for the first 12 points of the season and a cup game, up until the closure of the transfer window, with an incomplete squad season after season. Its baffling.

Darrell Clarke confirms #barnsleyfc 'very close' to a new goalkeeper, he said could be today. He also said other deals getting close.

    It is on Sky Eths,

If you have the Sky Sports package there is nothing extra to pay for Sky Sports+

Go to the Sports section on Sky, then either

Click the remote on the rectangle advertising Barnsley-v-Mansfield in a line of boxes advertising a few games ----OR

Go the new channel Sky Sports+ that has appeared in the line of choices including Sky Cricket etc.and choose from there

If you have Sky Sports already do not pay anything else.
