Thread: The Hundred

    The Hundred

Like I think every cricket lover on here I've taken no interest in The Hundred just seeing it as an unnecessary and irrelevant intrusion on an already too crowded fixture list.

My daughter's family have just taken an interest in watching Southern Brave. Last week they went to Southampton and witnessed Pollard hitting 5 sixes in a row to win the game and qualify. They loved it.

So my son-in law organised a trip to Lord's for the final for 7 of us from 3 generations including our 2 grand daughters and their friend. What a fantastic day (1 said it was the best ever) and all for less than £100 (£5 for kids of which there were 1000's)

Highlight for them was either when their favourite player Jorfa Archer came and fielded on the boudary right by them of when their faces where shown on the big screen.

The 100 brings in lots of badly needed revenue to cricket and a whole new audience. The girls all now want to have a bash at playing.

    I'm a convert.

Total waste, just a money making scam for the ECB, this stand and carve it game bears no relevance whatsoever to the game of cricket, too many greedy franchise players
We’re of to Scarborough to watch Yorkshire play Sus*** on Thursday to Sunday correct and proper County Championship cricket in front of a full house of 4500
The only positive for me with the ridiculous hundred is that in the 50 over competition it gives a chance for the younger players to come through, at Yorkshire we have several youngsters that have come through the ranks, albeit a bit inconsistent but playing the game in the correct way
You can have as many of these limited overs games as you like but in the end correct and proper cricket will always shine through

I hate this slogfest ‘cricket’, more akin to frightful baseball. Trouble is, most people’s attention span is very limited these days.

Have no interest in it whatsoever. I’ve been a cricket lover all my life. Played all the way through school, college, club cricket until I was 65 and now watch the club I played for on a regular basis. I love watching test cricket, quite enjoy the one day game. T20 is OK but not my favourite form. As for the Hundred, an abomination watched mainly by those who don’t understand the nuances of proper cricket. I hate all the razzmatazz as well. Tin hat time!

I tuned in briefly once just have a look. The ‘excitable’ rants of the commentators immediately put me off. I then looked at the garishly coloured score information and couldn’t fathom it. Off it went never to return. It just ain’t cricket.

Proper cricket returns tomorrow, Test Match versus Sri Lanka, let’s hope it’s competitive.

    Monkey tennis, a complete abortion.

Very few people “attracted” by this clown fest will end up following test cricket in my opinion.

I totally agree about all the negativity about this type of cricket. I'm in no rush to get to the Rose Bowl for another 100 unless it was for a family day out, but I will be at Lord's for the Test v SL.

But I've just come in from the garden after a couple of hours 'bowling' so 4 little girls can have a bat. Something I never thought I'd see.

We're all of a certain age. Too old to change? Could red ball cricket survive without the pyjama game?

I absolutely refuse to watch this abhorrent exhibition of something which has stolen the label of cricket. There was no need for this event to start in the first place. It was just the greed of players and tv companies alike. There was already a one day cup in existence over this period in the season which has now been devalued because of this competition. Rant over!

That’s nice to hear about the little girls 923.

I’ve spent the last three weeks firing shots in at my 7 year old grandson who’s suddenly become football ( and thankfully, Albion mad ) and it’s been a joy.

The wide eyed excitement at making a diving save ( he’s a keeper ) and when he hold onto a high ball.

Wanting to know everything in a hurry, wanting to learn about Albion, being able to direct his mum to the club shop at the ground when he shanked her for a third replica kit! 😂😎

You can’t beat the excitement of 6, 7, 8 year old kids who get into something they’re going to love for life.

So I do get it in regards to The Hundred and the girls and I hope they enjoy cricket for a lifetime.
