An excellent result for Charlton against the league leaders and likely champions. Charlton played well in all departments with a command performance. The change in formation, tactics to 4-4-2 and return of the high press all paying dividends.

Kanu had some early misses but played really well outpacing the Birmingham defence and putting them under pressure.

The visitors, who had won seven league one matches in succession, were limited to just three shots and all of those were off target.

Matty Godden deserved his goal giving Charlton the lead eight minutes into the second period from Josh Edwards' long throw controlling his shot into the bottom corner of the Birmingham goal, and three points secured.
