Thread: Clubs that make managers

    Clubs that make managers

Hope everyone is well, haven't posted for a while.

Ten 5h@g finally getting the boot at manure got me thinking about clubs like us who are constantly on the look out for a manager to make the club successful.

On the other hand there are a few clubs who seem to make managers great. Clubs like Brighton, Brentford, Swansea etc

How do they do it? Good owners? 'technical directors'? Surely it can't just be luck?

I think they pick their players and managers well, stick to a style and don’t reinvent themselves every time they get managerial turnover.

We’ve been dismal at this over more recent years as have United. I hope Patel is wise enough to change that.

Luck has a big bearing on form IMO. Sometimes the ball just goes in for you, confidence is high and players are succeeding in everything they’re trying.

We’ve been close to having three wins on the bounce, two of which we just needed the ball to go in. The other we needed to hang on 2 minutes. One of those things I guess but it plays a big part in whether a manager is successful or a flop.

I’ve a feeling that clubs who have had some decent historic successes are more demanding and inevitably making comparisons with yesteryear!
Those with a ‘lesser pedigree’ reward moderate achievements and accordingly provide better motivation for their coaches to ‘punch above their weight’ and go on to greater things.
    Does that make sense ?

I heard one of the top managers in the Prem saying the exact same thing as your statement regarding luck, can’t remember who but it might have been the city manager. We’ve been playing well, just not getting the ball over the line.

Good morning Paul. I wonder where Watford and their owner Gino Pozzo see themselves in that formula 😃 .

My historical knowledge of Watford FC is sadly lacking Albionic buddy…albeit their story reads like a soap opera !
