After many years of Dychball, we were treated to a season of brilliant football under Kompany, which led to us being promoted to the premier league. Most if not every claret supporter was enthusiastically waiting for our season in the premier league and probably so was the team who won us promotion to that league.
Unfortunately, the club decided that those players where not suitable for the EPL and brought in what they considered EPL standard players. The season turned out to be a disaster, not only on the pitch but also managing to alienate some of players who gained our right to play in the EPL.
Following our relegation a number of our supporters thought we would walk the championship this season.
However, after our relegation back to the championship it is understandable some of the players who won the championship and were discarded by Kompany, wished to leave and I don’t blame them. Then of course there was the so called EPL quality players whose ego’s thought they were too good to play in the championship, although they were the ones who got us relegated.
When Parker arrived, we had to rebuild yet again, and a lot of the blame must be attributed to Pace as he was completely taken in by Kompany’s so called vision. Pace could have insisted the following our promotion to the EPL those who had achieved that promotion were given the chance to step up to the task of the EPL. This is however hindsight and does not help out our current campaign. Parker has formed a reasonably solid defence but need to identify some attacking / goal scoring options in the January window if we are to make a challenge to return to the EPL.
While I was less than enthralled with the appointment of Parker, he has been dealt a poor hand as far as goal scorers are concerned. We need two strikers one being a natural poacher such as, Ings and Austin were, and someone who can win the ball in the air. So lets see what January brings.
