Romared Match Thoughts-- Cambridge United FC -v- Barnsley FC

On away form and results this season this should be nailed on for another Barnsley away win.

Having beaten three of the bottom four away from home--Crawley 21st, Burton 23rd and Shrewsbury 24th--an away fixture at 22nd place Cambridge should pose few problems.

    Go Well Darrell's Men.

I'll be more than interested in how Clarke goes about replacing Luca who is suspended .

Word to the wise Mr Clarke , don't pull Jonny Russell back to play defensive midfielder , leave Jonny where he is , he's doing just fine .

Luca out , Craig in , no need to bugga about tinkering .

We might win this with a biggish scoreline.
    Could be 3, 4 or 5 nil.
At some point the chances we are creating are going to be scored - and this could be the game.

Our problem this season has not been scoring goals it has been stopping them going in at the other end , we have goals all over the team and I am always confident that we will find the net , hopefully our new found confidence at the back since the introduction of Killip will continue and we will take the points but since they had a walloping last week I expect a reaction from Cambridge and this will not be a walk over as some are suggesting , hopefully we will get the points but I think it could be tight and by the odd goal , we will see .

We are not too shabby defensively against the weaker teams

    Crawley 0 Barnsley 3

    Burton 1 Barnsley 2

    Shrewsbury 0 Barnsley 2

As YN says a hatful of Barnsley goals could be on the way. Our Goal Difference of +5 is down to games like these. We will take no lectures from Cambridge about scoring or conceding goals.

There was a stat showing Barnsley are the worst team in the league at conceding goals after 75 minutes.
That?s because we are struggling to put the game to bed.
We are dominating teams but not making this dominance count as we are not putting the score beyond reach of the opposition.
Hence the opposition gaining more confidence as the game goes on that they can gain something out of the game.

The lack of fire power at the club is putting a strain on the defence.

If we still had Cole or McAtee - with the addition of Dunn and Humphrys - then IMO we would be top two in the division by now.

Watters and Cosgrove are just not stepping up to the plate.

Chance to change things in January.
And according to reports DC has told recruitment what he needs.

I keep reading where we have a lack of firepower when the stats suggest we certainly have , conceding goals has been our problem but my point is that fans seem to forget that our players are 3rd division, they are not top rated players the are 3rd rate players and therefore chances will be missed and mistakes will be made all over the pitch , players miss chances at the top level and certainly at the next level below , I think some of our fans have watched too much footy on the box and been fed on a diet over the years of top flight strikers , its time for these fans to wake up and accept where we are , last season we had two main strikers who up to january did the business but they were also not top strikers and were 3rd division players who could not sustain their form and their goals dried up , look at their tally from january onwards but that is what you get at this level , its a team game and if we maintain our current goal scoring record [ currently 4th highest ] we will be there abouts but we have to be more consistent at the back , we are improving but it is this area what has cost us so far not the the goals scored column .

Craig or possibly Hourihane as a replacement for Connell? Personally I'd go for the latter, that is assuming he's fit, just for his experience, and then bring Craig on for him after 65/70 mins to see the out the rest of the game.

Barring a suspension/ injury crisis I don't think we will see Hourihane gracing the Oakwell turf again Pass.

He seems quite happy to be developing his coaching qualifications and experience at Grove Street.

I was looking forward to seeing him play this season but it looks unlikely. I was fortunate to see one of last appearances for the Reds in a pre-season friendly at Accrington where he ran the game.

I fear the Hourihane player era has gone. Thanks for the memories.

He actually came on in the first match of the season against Mansfield for the last 30 odd minutes but to my memory he hasn"t been on the pitch since, shame because I think he might have been influential in the games we were trying to see out and ended up messing up, Northampton for example but that is only my opinion .
