O/T:- It's all Greek to me

Wouldn't you just know it that after all the years of wrangling, it will be Starmer's, anti British lot that give in and return the Elgin marbles after we saved them from almost certain destruction.

What next, Falklands, Gibraltar, disband the Commonwealth, bankrupt the nation to pay reparations, this, on top of the billions already paid in aid over 50 years????

"Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said Mitsotakis would raise the issue again with Starmer but that it was more of a matter for the British Museum than the government"

Obviously political pressure has long been applied but let's not automatically blame the government for everything, regardless of which colour they may be.

Speaking as someone who has visited Athens many times and loves the place, it's high time the marbles were returned to where they belong, there is absolutely no justification for them being in the British Museum.

I couldn't give a toss if they're in London or Athens. However Starmer seems hell bent on being the most hated PM ever or he hasn't a clue how this all looks to the British pubic!!

Surley we haven't got another 4 years of this idiot have we?!!!

Had they been left 'where they belong', they would no longer exist like so much of the Parthenon that is missing.

That may be so but they are not really ours to keep.

    Not ours, give back!

We should be proud of keeping them in good nick but lets not pretend just because we took them whilst some others weren't looked after quite as well, then they become ours.

Its the same with the Moai Statue from Rapa Nui. They should return to their rightful home.

For someone who is championing British jobs for British people in your other thread, your clutching of pearls (marbles) over something that quite literally isnt English, should be in Greece and shouldnt be here is quite hilarious.

Hypocrisy and British attitudes that we need to swoop in and save everyone / everything in yhe world are the exact reason why so many people flock to live here (thus enraging you and many others). We need to keep our head down and focus on our own people / country.
