Thread: Thoughts from the game

    Thoughts from the game

We were comfortably the better team and had a much better bench.

For 30 minutes we had total control and looked good. Once we scored we seemed to stop doing what we had been and the intensity dropped and we let them into the game. I think that is maybe the frustration with this team - that when we have the opportunity to kill teams off we take our foot off their throat.

At those moments the crowd then struggles to lift the team.

Rothwell was bar far the best player on the pitch. Get to see the movement a lot more and I can understand why Farke picked Joseph for this game as he is quick at closing players down so we win back possession.

Aaronson covers more blades of grass but I like Tanaka who is calm under pressure seems to panic himself into the wrong option too often when closed down. He has the talent just needs to work on the cool head.

Back four looked very solid and Piroe was good when he came on his first touch is great and plays weighted passes.

Comfortable win in the end but should have been at least 2 at HT.

Highlight of the game was meeting Mel Sterlanf beforehand- top top fella.

    Unhappy

    Thanks for the overview.

I missed the game due to the unreasonable expectation of my boss to work while we are playing but saw the highlights. Even on those short clips it does look like our back 4 was really solid. Boro has been scoring quite a bit and really didn't look a threat. Also agree on the assessment on Josephs pressing. He's just much faster and quicker than our other options up front. we have a very good problem this year in trying to determine which mids are going to be featured. we are really deep there once Ampadu's back as well as Gruev.

I know Wober's rubbed a lot of us the wrong way but he's good.

PS- that was a side that could play against the bottom 10 teams in the prem.

Superb win, really pleased, however rodon got away with one with a penalty and meslier earned his keep with a superb one on one save at a crucial time, wonder is certainly better than firpo, ( and yes he had rubbed many up the wrong way) byram is better and more solid than bogle, James is a wonderful match winner, (please don?t get injured) Joseph will never do it however many times farke offers him a chance, piroe is much more skilful and technically gifted,( which comes across as lazy), Roth well and tanaka are a good fit, we don?t miss ampadu and gruev?..we must improve away from home and not deliver poor performances after a good home win (Preston on Saturday).

Struijk and Rodon looked more relaxed and able to play out from the back with Byram and Wober on the flanks as both of them have so much positional sense and read the game. Wober is a unit too so when he goes for the ball tends to win it.

The big challenge will be the intensity thing when we suddenly go into our shells and try to protect what we have and allow the other team back into it.

When we were good yesterday we looked like the best team in the league and Boro looked scared of allowing us space.

We have won 3, drawn 4 and lost 2 away from home so far. definite need for improvement. We have only been able to beat Cardiff, Swansea and Wednesday away from home. At home we have won 9, drawn 1, and lost 1.
Its a pity Byram got injured so badly. I always thought he was the best player of his generation from Leeds. Him and Delph.
Its odd that we had a better team of 1st eleven last season but failed to go up. This season I think we have a better chance of going up comparing club position after 20 games in both seasons. I think last season we failed because of the darn international breaks which caused injuries and fatigue in our best players.

We also failed because 2 other teams were way out in front which isn't the case this season (so far).
