The way I understand it is the UK is at risk to get seriously colder if/when predictions re climate change come true. From what i understand is the UK should be colder but because of the jet stream it is kept artificially warm, if/when this is impacted by climate change then we could see it become much colder here because we aren't kept artificially warm.

So while other areas see increases in temperatures, ours could become lower.

Labelling climate change 'Global warming ' was a massive own goal as people see a cold spell and shrug their shoulders and think 'Pah Global Warming my arse'

There is no doubt climate change is very real, how much is nature and how much down to human activity of course will be debated for all time.

We are technically in an ice age but the planet has been in an interglacial phase for a few thousand years, this is a warmer period where glaciers melt etc.

To me the way it seems to be accelerating has to be as a result of human activity, or mostly so.

How much we can do to slow it down who knows. I don't see much evidence that people care that much, the amount of litter thrown from vehicles demonstrates to me that a lot of people just dont care.

My neighbour has an electric car (save the planet!), and a massive plastic lawn (fck you nature!). I don't think society wants personal responsibility if it negatively impacts cost or convenience.

Agree, I know I'm far from perfect, very far really. I don't litter, I recycle etc, I eat meat but not lots, I WFH so don't use much fuel, i keep thermostat down at home, turn off appliances at the wall etc, but...I have a hot tub bubbling away at the moment so I probably destroy all the good I try and do.

What? You mean opinions and evidence have changed over the course of the last half century? Who’d a thought? Unprecedented!

Ramshank is right though, imo. Personal convenience appears to trump long term logic every time. For me there’s more than ample evidence of climate change due to global warming, but until our leaders set a grown up example and we all stop having to worry about the prospect of WWIII then little is likely to change.

    says you.

Human CO2 production pales in comparison with nature. 1 volcano can outstrip anything we produce.
No one denies the climate changes, yet to say the human race has tipped us into doom territory is unproven and over stated,

The point was, 50 years ago, the scientists were raging the northern hemisphere, is plummetting into another ice age of mile thick ice covering it. They were wrong.
Thats the crux of it. The current mania has money making schemes written all over it.
Clean up the planet, of course. But the current insanity is off the charts.

If the world really wants to lower CO2, then stop chopping down trees across the world, without adequate re planting schemes.
    Trees love CO2.

I actually agree with Tricky, I know I'm having a lie down after this, but trees are more the answer than Ed's 22bn carbon capture scheme.

Funnily enough the much derided Jeremy Corbyns plans to plant trees would have captured more carbon at a fraction of the cost.

I hate to see trees felled but that?s more for aesthetic and heritage reasons than saving the planet. A quick poll in t?pub on this subject recently suggested dedication to the cause is patchy at best, nil at worst. My point would be that recycling may be great but how about not buying stuff (basically ****) in the first place - for instance Sweden may be top of the pops regarding getting emissions down but my observation is that 50% of what?s deposited at council tips has had a useful life of a couple of years and originated in a Swedish shop. How about increasing VAT to 100% on furniture?
