    January Transfer Window 2025

Gabriel Slonina recalled to Chelsea following loan spell at Barnsley - Felix Johnston
    Today, 14:38

Chelsea have recalled goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina from his loan at Barnsley, reports Felix Johnston.
Slonina has been dealing with a finger injury and remains unfit for action, prompting the Blues to bring him back for further care and assessment.
Chelsea?s medical staff will oversee Slonina?s recovery process, with a decision on a potential new loan move expected once he regains full fitness.

    Not unexpected really.
I am just sat here waiting for the announcement that Connell has gone for an “offer we couldn’t refuse” Will be made. I’m pretty sure that the old “make him captain and we will get an extra 200k” card will be played well in this window……

That's a huge blow for Stockport with Louie Barry getting recalled by Villa .

Would love us to bring him in! Most likely off to a Championship side though?
Would it be so bad if Connell left the way he’s been playing? Nwakali can step in there and we can get in someone to step in if we have injuries! Maybe 2 if Craig is sent back? We also have Benson, but we don’t ever know for how long before he’s on the treatment table again?

In my opinion Perky it would be a massive mistake getting rid of Connell , lets not go down the same road of getting rid of our better players because the social media brigade not the regular supporters have turned on him , that happened with Woodrow and Styles for example who are both playing in the championship currently , we seem to have a core of our fan base who continually pick away at our better players, you only have to read this forum to find such a fan , Connell is a good player who has had his problems not helped by putting the captaincy on him but cream always rises to the top and he has shown his quality in the last two games for example at Bolton and Posh where he played very well in both games and it was clearly evident that he was missed big time in the previous game against Orient . I have banged the drum long enough about our current owners selling our better players and replacing them with raw potential of lesser quality , if we continue to do this we will drop lower and lower.

I’m not anti Connell Shads, I am looking at the way it’s probably going to pan out this window… He has his failings, but I think he is one that we should build around, not sell.

Connell has shown in the past he was our best player.
His form has dropped off a cliff - that dosent mean he?s a bad player.
The coaching staff at the club need to look at the reason why his form has dipped.

Theres a reason why some of us identify players that are not good enough or pulling their weight - it?s because we can see that certain players are not good enough or pulling their weight.

Kane - always took the safe easy pass - usually sideways or backwards - mimicking a crab doesn?t suit the Barnsley Game Model.

Woodrow - priimadonna - had a purple patch years ago and is still dining out on it. Poor ball control - continually berates his team mates. Irritatingly always playing with his shorts, pulling them up and fiddling with them.

Phillips - unnoticeable for large periods of a game - his team mates having to pick up the slack. As Duff reported - he needs to contribute more. And he still does.
Nwakali is a far better player than Phillips or Kane.

Watters - puts the effort in but is not a natural striker. His anticipation in and around the box goes from a scale of poor to abysmal.

Cosgrove - big powerful target man with the ball control that is worse than a free standing bedroom wardrobe.

    We need a clear out:
    Phillips
    Watters
    Cosgrove

    We need incomings:
    New keeper as cover.
A proper attacking striker / winger type that is fast and can also score. A Frieser type.
Two new out and out strikers.

Get those in and I can?t see any other team in this league better than us.

I think you have summed it up perfectly Jules , I agree that he is one we have to build round, whilst he will know that he has not been at his best we all know how influential he can be , we certainly miss him when he is not on the pitch much the same as we miss the very talented Kane , a player who would get us up the pitch , link the play and score plenty of goals and assists , we simply have to try and hang on to the better players and ditch this continual process of selling at every opportunity and replacing with lesser talent .

Not having a go, but you clearly don't understand the nuances of the game unfortunately Nudger, you know, things like what makes a side tick, or the contributions that certain players make which is difficult for the untrained eye to see.

I read somewhere that the club had their targets identified. The departures of Craig and Slonina ( up to now) suggests that space is being freed up to accommodate new recruits. My word, we need them.

However Ive heard similar statements many times previously with very little movement at the end of the window, it usually results in a last minute panic or were now on to our third choice etc.

I really hope that the ownership is as good as its word and quality recruits are forthcoming. Ive no idea where the money is coming from without sales (and only our better players will raise a suitable amount of cash) so were looking towards an interesting month.

An opportunity for promotion is there for the taking (probably via play offs) but we must improve our personnel to have a good go at it.
