Thread: Set pieces?

  1. #1

    Question Set pieces?

With the greatest of respect if you can't score goals from open play, why not master the art of scoring from set pieces?

I wonder if SD has a bit of time to help Cardy out?

It would help if Foster and Flemming put their heads on the line and attack the ball in the 6yd box, instead of ball watching.

Another player we miss is O'Shea who would have weighed in with 5 or 6 goals by now. Esteve and CJ are fantastic CHs but offer little on set piece play in the opposition box. Esteve is 6'4" and this is a part of his game he needs to improve in, to play at the very top

To score more goals we need to move the ball faster and commit more players forward, but not at the expense of conceding at the other end

13 without defeat. Best defence in the history of English football after games played and 3pts of the top

Parker is doing a phenomenal job after what was thrown his way last August, so why change things?

We offer no threat whatsoever from set pieces and that is plain bonkers.

I cannot recall the last time we scored from a corner.

I think Arsenal have scored around 20 already this season from corners and that's in the EPL!

Exactly BT. Esteve needs coaching on how to improve his game on set pieces as this is going to hold his career back, the same applies to CJ.

Fleming is another who lacks the will to attack the ball. I counted in one game pre xmas when Fleming missed 2 easy headers, and Foster is no better. Rodriguez is probably our best header of the ball.

I would throw Barnes on in a stalemate, he at least will put himself about and get on the end of things, unlike the other duck eggs

Chicken and Egg isn’t it , we’d rather play backwards than play balls into the box because we’re comfortable doing that I think really Worrall would be one to attack set pieces - the others especially regular starters I’d say not.

We’re not overly physical are we really and sometimes get bullied out of games.

Possibly O'Shea in the first game of the season at Luton, but I could be wrong.

There has to be time when Barnes plays even if it's only the last 15 mins otherwise there is no point in him being here. I agree with Ballcock
Esteve and Laurent should be a real threat at set pieces. On crosses we should always have a man dedicated to attacking the near post imo

our back 4 is so solid the rest should be throwing their selves forward. As army keeps saying we are far too negative.
