Leam Richardson favourite to land Wycombe job

For Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United manager Leam Richardson has become one of the front runners to take over at Wycombe Wanderers.

The 45-year-old is currently available following his departure from the Millers in April last year, but his stint with the Yorkshire-based team was one to forget, as he only won two of his 24 games in charge, tasting defeat 18 times.

According to Oddschecker, he is currently 3/1 to replace Matt Bloomfield at Adams Park, after the latter joined Luton Town last week.

Other names that have been linked to the Wanderers job include ex-Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City boss Steven Schumacher (4/1), former Oxford United manager Des Buckingham (5/1), Solihull Moors man Andy Whing (8/1), and ex-Charlton Athletic manager, Dean Holden.

The latter is currently the assistant manager at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by former Liverpool captain and England international, Steven Gerrard.

The club are expected to announce their new man at the helm by the end of the month, with development coach Sam Grace currently looking after things in the interim.

His first game in charge of the first team was in the recent 2-1 victory against Mansfield Town on January 18.

Was Richardson was given enough time in his role for us?

Probably not. It was already broken when he took it over and don't think he was given the time to fix it.

That is more or less how I saw it pal. Crocks/ has beens and plain lazy feckers wasn?t going to get him very far.

It needed a total clear out like Evo had to do.

Maybe his pride got dented being sacked but with his big pay off from Wigan and his other from Stewart, Leam had quite a few rounds of golf last year.

He will probably see himself ready to get back into the game now after a good rest.

When Richardson got the job it mirrored the circumstances of when Warne was given the job. Inherited a complete and utter mess in a league where we have to play out of our skins just to achieve 4th bottom. The ship had already sunk.

We sympathised with Warne and gave him the chance to show us what he could do in League One. Maybe that was because we were fond of his long serving links to the club, or maybe it was because he was the cheap option. But he got the chance to put his stamp on it and I'm glad he was given that chance.

Richardson wasn't given the same opportunity. Maybe it was fan pressure, maybe it was the rapidly dwindling attendances and a worry this trend would impact season ticket sales as we approached our centenary year. Maybe TS was so shell shocked at how miserable things were at the club that he thought the risk of Richardson continuing this at a lower level was too much. But he was at least proven in League One.

This season up until Christmas didn't go exactly to plan, but we can't deny that there was a lot of excitement and buzz at the club through the close season with Evans' return, and I think thats what Tony Stewart wanted to capture. 2025 has started to slowly bring that feeling back with the performances on the pitch. Long may that continue.

I wish Leam the best if he gets the Wycombe job, he deserves another go at this league and I'm sure he'll be keen to show the public that what happened to him with the Millers was more about us than him.

Dull manager. I'd be surprised if Wycombe do let him "into the building"

    Come on Brin, keep up

Dean Holden left Al-Ettifaq on the 13th November 2024 where he was assistant manager to
Steve Gerard, along with sports director Mark Allen, one report both sacked, another mutual
    consent.
To me they took the bullet for Steve Gerrard, after the clubs bad results.

I posted it on the manager / head coach dismissals thread.

Oh come on everyone who isn?t daft can see he was the scapegoat put in place until Steve evans failed to get Stevenage into a play off place.

His Wigan team absolutely walked the league that year they went up, good luck to leam.

Wigan team wasn’t all LR, he inherited it. Which helped.
If he had shown some bottle, called it as it was, if indeed we did have players who wouldn’t play, or played the kids, he probably would have stayed.
Fact is, after changing managers after a previous bad pick and TS doesn’t really trust to let go liking who he knows, he really wanted evans back.
    Bottom line.
