We have to. Simple as that.

Reckon one of our big players will go to give us some headroom, though.

We have to spend big in the summer or we will be left behind a lot depends on if we make europe and with us seemingly selling lots of squad players and no replacements that is looking doubtful now.

Hopefully we will finish with something in Europe and that will be enough to tempt the "jewels in the crown" to stay.

If that was the case then would be the time to offer the main men, who we want to build the future on, Haaland type contracts while the sun is shining and feelings are good.

By that time it will be all improvement and a few better players in most positions

Even if we qualify for Europe (it will have to be the champions league) we still won?t be able to bring in many top players and will all the extra matches we struggle next season with our squad.

I know it was ages ago, probably in the 70's and things were a lot different then, but Liverpool went through one season, league and cup games as well as a full tilt at Europe, and only used 14 different players throughout the entire season.

They must have been knacked at the end of that season.

I don't see Isak leaving in the summer. We will be wise to hang onto him, no transfer fee can replace what he does for us. I think he might just stick around and see what we'll do in the summer business wise.

To me, it's more likely that Bruno will go so long as the right offer comes along, contract extension or not - contracts have a thousand clauses in them these days anyway.

The summer window is so critical and crucial. We haven't truly strenghtened the squad in almost two years.

I don't doubt that the summer transfer window will see us able to spend of first team targets.

    The issue I have are:

Between now and the end of the season those around us, Villa, Chelsea etc are bringing in new players to strengthen. Without reinforcements our ability to maintain a run at the top 4 could be seriously diminished. With UCL football (top 4 or 5 depending on the coefficient - looking good for 5th) our ability to attract our Tier 1 targets is greatly improved. Should the current squad fail to maintain the form and finish outside the UCL places our rivals home and abroad who will be in the UCL have leverage over us in any deal.

At the same time, players like Jonathan David, free agent in the summer will be difficult to sign with a massively inflated fee for a player out of contract in a few months if we try to force a signing this window.

There has to be a tipping point with PSR were NUFC's revenue v expenses. This summer, as things stand, NUFC will make a PROFIT of +£23-24million.

With us making a +£23-24million profit & £75million debt drops off our 3 yrs PSR rotation it puts the club in a position of strength in the market.
