Leeds United - v - Sunderland ***Matchday Thread***

    Leeds Utd v Sunderland
    Monday 17th February@20:00 | Elland Rd

Leeds host Sunderland under the illuminated lights at Elland Road on Monday evening, hoping to extend their unbeaten to 15 (league games). The stakes are high for both sides. Sunderland may be fourth in the Championship table, but a win could take them, to within four points of the Whites.

Daniel Farke's side have shown remarkable form in recent weeks, racking up five wins and three draws from their last eight outings. Sheffield Utd and Sunderland also have 18 points on the board from the same amount of games, with Burnley lagging behind on 16.

Historically, however, Sunderland have been a tough opponent for the Whites; they?ve managed just one victory in their last seven league encounters against the Black Cats, with three draws in the past four meetings underscoring the competitive nature of this fixture.

Enzo Le Fee?s arrival last month has re-energised Sunderland?s midfield, taking some of the pressure off young sensation Jobe Bellingham. The potential for wide threats from Trui Hume and Dennis Cirkin adds to Sunderland's attacking threats, but they will face a Leeds defense that has proven resolute, going six league games without conceding.

Farke could potentially welcome back Pascal Struijk, who featured from the bench in Leeds? recent 4-0 demolition of Watford after recovering from a hamstring injury. His anticipated return could see him re-establish a central defensive partnership with Joe Rodon, allowing Ethan Ampadu to revert to his preferred midfield role.

However, the visitors will be without key players Ajibola Alese, Niall Huggins, Tom Watson, and Jayden Danns for this matchup. Despite this, Romaine Mundle may have a role to play as he returns from injury, offering a boost to Le Bris's side. Wilson Isidor is expected to lead the line for the visitors as they aim to capitalize on any defensive lapses from the Championship leaders.
