By my count, six baggies. Putting that into perspective, that's 6 in 125 years - so that's one every 21 years. Given the number of teams in the the top division is around 20-22 we should expect to have the top scorer once every 20-22 years or so just by the law of averages. So we have done at least OK and better than many. Plus, we have only been in the top flight for 82 of those 125 seasons, so we have averaged a top scorer every 13.6 years in the top division, which is way about the average anyone should expect.

Another thing i noticed is that the highest number of goals scored varied from 18 to 60 so a lot depends on how the other players are doing. So you could score 25 goals a season for ten years and only be top scorer once or twice or never or eight times because of how everyone else does. I mean, you could score 50 goals but if Dixie Dean sticks in 60, you aren't going to be the top scorer.

Also, being top scorer often is no reflection on how well the team has done anyway. There seems to be not a lot of correlation between the performance of the team and the top scorer. How many times has the top scorer been from the champion team that season? A number of times for sure but certainly not even close to every year.

The point I am making is that I think we have done very well, above average, actually. Plenty for us to be proud about.

I can vaguely remember watching him score a couple against us in the 4-4 Boxing Day fixture back in 1963...I just Googled the game, and was amazed at the crowd that day...over 37000
