Thread: Mowbray

    Mowbray

I was quite excited when he was appointed given his reputation of giving youth a chance, this fixation of selecting Swift, Diangana and I?m sure Wallace would be there if fit is bordering on the ludicrous, Fellows seemingly has gone backwards and Diakite can?t get a look in, Lankshear gets the odd 5 mins or so, poor Armstrong looks lost with little or no service.
IMO the football is no better and defensively we are worse, have the board made an incorrect decision in appointing Mowbray or will he get it right in time, if Swift, Wallace and co get another contract then that answers the question

In many ways it is early days but he does not appear to know what his best side is. I agree that Fellows is not the player that started the season and to my mind Price should be an automatic selection. Perhaps he was not 100% fit yesterday. Another problem is that although he says that he wants us to be more attacking, and there has been some evidence of this, but the style of football, especially yesterday, looks similar to that under CC. I honestly do believe that we have the squad to finish in the play offs but until we can find someone who can regularly find the back of the net, it is by no means a certainty.

I understand the resting of players. He is a very good manager. What I saw yesterday was that we were in complete control of the game. We should have won comfortably. Norwich set up well at the back and frustrated us but what I also saw was the complete lack of an instinctive shot on goal when there was a chance. My mate who supports Arsenal said that Arsenal often dominate possession but dont do the most important part. (They used to be known for it, albeit much improved now). If I was a player yesterday I would have been completely gutted at that Scoreline yesterday. Dazed in disbelief. Norwich barely deserved a draw. We didnt deserve to lose and really should have won. It is what it is.

Maja has been a big miss , but I would sell him in the summer.
Not his fault like Dike , but we can't afford to have strikers missing for 18months (Maja) and Dike over 2 years .
The last time we had reliable strikers was when we had Gayle and Jay Rod .
I'm disappointed in Armstrong , he's a good enough player to adapt ,like we should to our game .

Two head coaches of different ilk and style, and we fail to impress. Begs a closer scrutiny of the quality of the whole squad in my opinion.

Mowbray's original target was to achieve 4th place (no doubt to play at home in the 2nd leg of the playoff).
That soon became unachievable and now he uses the phrase 'finishing where we want to finish', if that means the playoffs then just say that or does he think he will curse it?
Although yesterday was our first loss for a few games, the pack are now on level points with us and Coventry ahead.
Mowbray feels we will have a better game against Sunderland as they will come at us but actually they don't need to a draw would probably suit them.
We need to find a way to score against teams which sit behind the ball which many of them have this season.
Exciting 7 games to go and it may well go to the Luton game where we could relegate them (not that I care about that).
I'm still staying positive whilst we are in the top 6.

Mowbray has consistently stated that he will change formations and individual players to best suit the opposition on the day. Fair enough, but still hard to disagree that constant changes (if not enforced by injury /red cards) lose us momentum and make us look disjointed at times.

Also seems obvious that, just as Carlos was fixated with playing Wallace, TM is over fond of Swift and Diangana. Yes, both have undoubted quality but they are also two of our most inconsistent players who go missing. Unless Price was injured, he surely has to start before Swift?

As for Fellows, he has gone backwards but don't quite know why. It's true that both he and Johnston were found out by teams who then made sure they put more than one defender to mark them which blunted their trickery and caused frustration but it seems more than this. Maybe a confidence thing or him missing the rapport with Furlong and being asked to do more defensive duties?

Both Armstrong and Lankshear have been underwhelming so surely time for Dike to start now and be given more opportunity?

I was happy at TM's appointment but still remembered that his previous stint with us was also not devoid of frustration despite having more quality in the team then. Let's just hope he can get us over this hump, but I believe he will have to rethink some things to do so.

Again, cannot argue with any of the above. You have pretty much expressed my own opinions on the situation. It is an old cliche I know, but basically we have seven cup finals ahead of us. Let us hope that we are up to it!

To be honest, I think that Fellows has gone backwards since the transfer window in which he was touted to go to Everton. This has obviously proved to be a distraction for the boy and it is unlikely to improve as the media are still getting their teeth into the proposed move in the summer.

I'm sure this has played its part Tipp. but still think there is a bit more to it. Fellows always struck me as being pretty "feet on the ground" so I would have thought he would want to do his best for the club for the duration he is here and show both baggie fans and potential suitors what he can do. Mowbray clearly rated him when he first arrived but he isn't getting the game time he once was so something is clearly amiss and affecting performance.
