Two wins on the bounce and we are up by my reckoning.![]()
The finishing line is in sight to yet another Championship marathon. Dave Thornley writes his usual good stuff for Clarets Mad and Burnley fans everywhere.
With just four games left to be played in the Championship season, there remains three teams still jostling for the two automatic promotion places into next season?s Premier League.
As it stands, it is Sheffield United whose three consecutive defeats have seen them most in danger of being left without a chair when the music stops.
Burnley?s week was less traumatic with the disappointment of a lacklustre goalless draw at the home of struggling Derby County being followed by a 2-1 home win over Norwich City.
An excellent first half performance was highlighted by a superb goal scored by Hannibal, controlling Josh Cullen?s delightful scooped through ball on his chest then stroking the ball into the corner of the Norwich goal.
The Clarets? second was a filthily deflected Jaidon Anthony shot, at which point it seemed that the next goal would be to stretch Burnley?s lead still further.
Instead, Burnley visibly eased off in the second half and a scrappy Norwich goal from a corner resulted in a final fif**** minutes which became needlessly nerve-shredding. But hold on they did and in doing so, skipped back into top spot in the league table and applied pressure on their rivals both of whom would begin their next matches at lunchtime on the following day.
Leeds would beat Preston and reclaim top spot-on goal difference, but Sheffield United?s defeat at Plymouth allowed Burnley to open up a five point lead over the Blades and in doing so, allowed for the possibility of them securing promotion with victory in their next two matches, away to Watford and, of course, at home to Sheffield United on Easter Monday.
The volatility and turmoil of the Championship as experienced recently by both Sheffield United and Leeds has not really affected Burnley, their slings and arrows of outrageous fortune have thus far been moderate in scale and therefore manageable, Scott Parker?s Burnley have been the dictionary definition of consistency.
Should this remain the case for the remaining four matches, the Clarets will once again be playing Premier League football next season.
Editor's note: Can we do it? Yes we can! UTC#

One down, one to go.
Beat Sheffield United and promotion.
It would be nice to finish the job easter Monday and give our fans a night to remember, and send the tykes back down the Snakes pass (A57) with a night they won't forget, for the rest of their sad miserable lives
They weren't very good against Cardiff and Hamer, their best player, looked as though he picked up a hamstring problem at the end of the game.
The Blades have to win, I wonder how they'll approach the game, chuck the kitchen sink at us, or sit back, trust to luck and try to nick one ?
I think that they will employ similar tactics to when they beat us at Bramall Lane in our last Championship season. They bullied us after we had gone 2-0 in front and we did not have the character at the time to override this.
Several teams this season have tried the same tactic, however, as was proved yesterday, we are now a much more reslient and streetwise team and stand up to whatever is thrown at us. It should be an interesting encounter.
