Charlton were outplayed by Northampton in much of this game but such is their spirit and determination, they still found a way to grind out a win. This win guarantees Charlton's place in the play-offs with three games to go. Though Charlton will need to win all three to stand a chance of automatic promotion, they tend to step up a gear against the top 6 sides in any case, two of which they play next.
Lloyd Jones returned to the side in front of a bumper crowd to cheer the home side on. Luke Berry opened the scoring from a Matty Godden cross who himself scored the winner to guarantee Charlton's play-off place. Northampton levelled six minutes later after a hand ball off McIntyre. Costelloe stepped up to score from the penalty spot.
It was a goal apiece going into the 2nd half and after a nervy start, Aneke was introduced to up the tempo of the game. Berry continued to have some good chances as did Godden from a sumptuous Thierry Small cross. Godden then scored the winner four minutes later capitalising on an Aneke fed ball from Mannion's long ball, sliding his shot under Burge the Northampton GK. The team then saw out the rest of the game in what was a nervy finish but move up to 4th and face Wycombe, the team in 2nd place, next.
Charlton goals: Berry 9, Godden 72
