Charlton's automatic play-off hopes are ended with this defeat to Wrexham which sees the Welsh club promoted to the Championship. This is their third consecutive time.
The Add1cks were without Luke Berry and Thierry Small for this game and were overawed by Wrexham knowing a win would secure them the 2nd automatic promotion spot. Lloyd Jones played through an injury sustained in the excellent win against Wycombe and Chuks Aneke missed this one, the first of his 3 games suspension from a red card. This left the bench slightly depleted with game changers.
After Wrexham had taken the lead by 2 goals, Charlton looked to fight back when Watson came close but his shot was easily dealt with by the Wrexham GK. Tyreece Campbell's follow up shot was blocked by the Wrexham defence.
Smith sealed the win for Wrexham with 9 minutes to go. The Add1cks next play Burton Albion before they concentrate their efforts on the play-offs. After finishing the season in such a strong position, we wish them every success in the play-off rounds.
