Another latter day hero bids farewell - only just got the farewell at Villa park in on time
I tried for tickets for the Villa gig and in retrospect glad I missed out. I'd rather remember him at the height of his powers, which to me wasn't in Sabbath it was his first tour with Blizzard Of Oz - specifically 5th October 1980 when they played The Assembly Rooms, not my best gig ever but certainly my most surprising, I honestly thought he'd be dead by then but he turned up fully focussed with a ****-hot band and a fantastic, catchy set of rock songs. I might be the only one of us here who attended that night, but most of us know at least a bit about the madness that was Ozzy around that time and in the decades since. Farewell Ozzy and we thank you
Another one today. George Kooymans, guitarist and singer with Golden Earring died of ALS having been diagnosed 4 years ago.
RIP, a great band who I saw a few times maybe 45 plus years ago. I recall they said if one fell, the band would cease to be and so it appears, after they play some memorial concerts for ALS next year
'Radar Love' is a benchmark song for covers bands, good ones can do it, lesser ones can't (especially the drumming in the middle section), I've been in one band (as singer) who nailed it, a few others who let it go during practise.
Whatever happened to decent Dutch bands - there was Shocking Blue Focus and Golden Earring, then what? 45-50 years of hurt....
... and 2 unlimited and all the EDM DJs
We've had some decent bands in more recent times although most were world famous in the Netherlands without pulling up any trees abroad.
80s, Ten Sharp who I saw opening for Tears for Fears were good.
More recently Kane, Kensington, Di-rect, Within Temptation, Krezip.... then we have Floor Jansen who started with After Forever (Dutch Metal band) and then joined Nightwish (Finnish Metal band) after "Forever" gave the lie to their name and disbanded. She's currently doing a solo tour, she opens and closes the set with Nightwish numbers but the vast majority of the show is stuff she's written herself and is far from Metal but IMO very good. Going to see her in Carre, Amsterdam in October. She has a great voice
