    The Nelson

There is a website that remembers old Cambridgeshire pubs, and the above was in South Street off East Road, where i first set foot in this dark world.

This is most likely the last time ever that South Street, the Nelson will ever be remembered, South street exists no more, replaced by Ruskin University. Such a street it was, it had its own farmyard.

And the Nelson first breathed into life in 1851. Farewell, it will live on in me, and the memories of a special place, of Charlie Wakelin from Bradmore street, Kevin Parnell, Petersfield, cold winters, coal fires, St Matthews school, of being young, in the start of a new adventure.

St Albans, the the church of our Lady and the english martyrs.

All passes, to be reborn, worlds come, and go, into eternity, god and the universe.

We had a Lord Nelson in Arnold and it was a proper den of iniquity where all the local ne'er do wells and rogues used to frequent, proper old pub that wouldn't have looked out of place in a Dickens novel but like most pubs they did it up and attracted the pub lunch and cappuccino crowd,I still miss those old days of the 70's and 80's though when it wasn't unusual to have a copper stroll through to see who was in there ,there was a bloke that used to come round on a Saturday night selling cockles and whelks from a basket who was very popular,I wonder what happened to him,he's probably dead now along with a lot of those who used to drink in there, there was also a proper barking mad Forest fan who was reputably one of England's most notorious hooligans called Paul Scarrot who was a bit of a laugh when he wasn't off his head on coke, last I heard he passed away in Spain somewhere begging for money from English tourists and a German called Ebby who came over from Germany every home game to watch Forest, lovely bloke who was quiet and shy but somehow ended up being a Nelson regular,I think that the Forest lads used to take turns in putting him up over the weekend when he came over,I've no idea how he came to support Forest, those rough but great pubs are disappearing by the minute Frank but it was great to be a part of that scene back in the day

Yes it was, and all of the people that haave gone, you and i are the lucky few, lucky, maybe the dead are lucky. We live on because we still have work to do, whatever it is.

Were the old days better, i think they were, simpler, more ordered, not the chaos of today, pressure in all spheres of life, nasty, criminality everywhere, all is just bad.

Cambridge was a grand place in the 60s, now its poo. I, we were born in exactly the right time, the 60s 70s and 80s were magnificent, we will check out at the right time, the future is horrifying.

South Street was brilliant, the lads, Petersfield, all was eden like. Now all is besmirched.

You are 100 percent right saying that the world was a simpler and nicer place back in the day, drugs and the criminality that goes with it has expanded beyond all comprehension from when we was lads,I know of two dealers who live near me and I don't even do drugs so God knows how many there are around here, sometimes when I sit by the river I can smell weed coming from passing cars almost on a daily basis, cannabis is socially acceptable now and just as common as having a beer at home

There was that big demonstration in London on Saturday organized by Tommy Robinson who is trying to whip up people's anger over the amount of immigrants coming to the UK,I can remember when Asians and blacks came over here in 70's and 80's and it generally worked out ok for everyone in the end, that generation didn't try to overthrow the government or attack Christian churches as much as the NF or Enoch Powell would have us believe so who to say that this generation will be any different

I would love to go back for a day to the early 70's and go around my old haunts,Daybrook Station which closed by Beeching back in 1963(?) was my playground when I was a kid,I can remember sitting on the benches outside the Waiting Room that had Fry's Chocolate Cream sign on the wall just rusting away,I should have taken it down as a reminder but when you are twelve or thir**** you see life differently to when you are older,I would love to see the vicar from my early years who I was scared of and see what he was like through an adults eyes,I think that he would be more inspirational than scary if I'm honest

To see my grandma again would be fantastic as well,go around the old sweet shop that was on my corner, dusty, dark and smelly it's amazing that it lasted so long as it did, when the old guy who ran died it shut down and became a barbers which is still there,Bernie the Butcher was the barber and was totally crap at haircuts but it was the nearest one to me being a few door down,I once asked my dad what was upstairs there as men would just walk through a door and head upstairs and he just said that you will find out one day son, turns out Bernie ran a knocking shop up there and took in more money than the barbers downstairs, what a character and I was completely obvious

If you could go back in time where would you go Frank as an adult,is there anyone that you should like to meet or just see again?

On a side note I don't normally get involved with politics but with the growing unrest over illegal immigrants do you think that Farage and a party like Reform will ever lead a government? A few years it seemed impossible but I'm not so sure now,I don't want it to happen but I think that the UK isn't on its own in what is happening with other Europe countries seeing a bigger far right following that wasn't there just five years ago,Labour and Conservatives just seen like opposite sides of the same coin to me,one is heads and the other is tails but no matter what they say or moan about it's just a coin no matter how you flip it

I will vote reform, no doubt about it, Labour are the enemy within, the cons are no different, and im a first generation immigrant. If i could go back in time it would be South Street, sunday mornings, going to church, and a lemonade on the way back. It was before being pitched out into this bad bad world.

Out of interest Frank why would a first generation immigrant want to vote Reform, surely you would be trying to deny others from what you have achieved?

Have you thought about other policial parties apart from the two main ones?

This is the difference, i identify as english, my cousins fly the Italian flag during world cups, i find that disgusting, an english couple on a house hunting programme recently, identified as Jamaican, wearing those colours, i just dont get that. Britain gave me everything ive got.

    Im grateful.

People think opposing unlimited immigration is racist, it is not, unlimited immigration is very harmful, its done for political reasons, and is helping bankrupt the country, which Labour wants. I am english and proud of it, considering Labour AND the Tories, we have to fight for our culture.

In our own country. Labour are ill. I will vote Reform, no problem. They will fix unbridled crime, drugs, unlawful immigration, bankrupcy, political corruption, councils pay themseves incredible amounts of money.

Cr ap in water, unions, the list is endless.

Crap in water was caused by Thatcher Frank. Unions are the reason that workplaces are safe and that people are rewarded properly.

Howdare you critisize the god made human, Ttcher saved Britain from your lot, like asatarmer who has a problem for every solution. And you are correct in wot you say about unions, but they go WAY to far, in a mad treacherous way, hell bent on destroying britain and all it stands for which i suspect you griff are after.

Covince me your not. Say that the unions go to far, you wont will you, that capitalism, freedom needs destroying, go on say it, everything you say says that.
