MillersMad Match Thread...Millers v Burton Albion

Thankfully, after our annual 1st round capitulation in the FA Cup, we return to league action. Please allow me to introduce our visitors, Burton Albion FC, aka the Brewers.

    The Boss
Gary Bowyer, appointed manager on 17/12/2024.

    Player(s) to watch
Charlie Webster is top scorer with 3 goals so far this season. The attacking midfielder came through Chelsea's youth academy and is a former England youth international at various levels.

Finn Delap. The 20 year old centre back is the son of Rory Delap and brother of Liam Delap.

    Played for both clubs
Joe Powell, Matt Palmer, Tolaji Bola, Guy Branston, Mark Robins, Ian Sharps, Paul Hurst, Anthony Forde, Paul Haycock.

    Recent Form
No such difficulties in the FA Cup for the Brewers, they smashed six goals past St Albans at the Pirelli Stadium.

As for the league, Burton aren't doing too badly away from home. They've only conceded one goal in their last four games in the league against the likes of Wimbledon, Doncaster, Cardiff and Huddersfield.

    Wimbledon 0 v 1 Burton
    Chesterfield 1 v 0 Burton (Vertu Trophy)
    Doncaster 1 v 1 Burton
    Cardiff 0 v 1 Burton
    Huddersfield 0 v 0 Burton

    Latest Odds
    Millers 5/4 Draw 21/10 Burton 21/10

    Recent Meetings
    (25/01/2025)
    Burton 4 v 2 Rotherham
    (Sibley, Green)

    (14/09/2024)
    Rotherham 2 v 2 Burton
    (Clarke-Harris, Humphreys)

    Summary
Other than 3 points, both teams have the added incentive of being able to move significantly up the table with a win. We can move up 6 places into 9th position with a win on Tuesday. Similarly, Burton can move up 8 places with a win themselves.

I'm expecting a tight game on Tuesday. Burton (at least on paper) seem to be a difficult team to beat on the road right now. Add the fact that we've hit another injury crisis and I think we can expect a tough game. Enjoy it everyone, UTM.

When this fixture was originally planned we could have been looking it it being our third straight league defeat, as things stand now it could be our fourth straight league win.

With the weather and Sk* TV, I'd expect a smaller crowd tonight, but hopefully not too quiet. UTM.

With a win tonight the Millers can move significantly up the table After closing the gap with successive wins in our previous games. Anybody else haunted with the realisation that we've been here before and we just dont win these games? It feels almost as set in stone as the seasons.

This is a massive match for us.A win could inject that confidence in to the home game against Lincoln. If we could get six points banked with hopefully the injured players returning, our season is looking good..
