MillersMad Match Thread...Millers v Wycombe Wanderers

Hello everyone, it's back to home comforts this weekend as we welcome the Chairboys to the New York Stadium.

    Let's meet our opponents.

    The Boss
Most Millers fans will remember Michael Duff from the season (his only season) which he had at Barnsley, where they were narrowly beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in the play off final in 2023. Since then, he's had spells with Swansea and Huddersfield, both of which culminated in his dismissal after poor runs of form. Prior to Barnsley he won silverware at Cheltenham in the form of a league two title.

He was appointed Wycombe boss on 18th September this year after the club decided to part company with Mike Dodds and so far Duff has had a positive impact on results. In the 14 games that he's been in situ, Wycombe have only lost twice, one of which was against Premier League Fulham who needed penalties to knock them out of the EFL Cup.

    Players(s) To Watch

Fred Onyedinma is obviously a player we had on loan. When we had him in the Championship, he scored 2 goals in 18 appearances, 15 of which were starts. The 29 year old Nigerian will surely be a threat at this level, and is definitely a player who could cause us problems on Saturday. This is his 4th separate stint with Wycombe, having had 3 other previous spells at the club.

Cauley Woodrow. The former Barnsley man is currently on loan from Luton and has scored 5 goals in 13 appearances so far this season.

Sam Bell is Wycombe's top scorer with 6 goals. The 23 year old is another player whom the Chairboys have on loan, this time from Bristol City.

    Last 6 results
    Wycombe 3 v 2 Lincoln (L1)
    Port Vale 0 v 0 Wycombe (L1)
    Gillingham 0 v 3 Wycombe (Vertu)
    Wycombe 4 v 1 Leyton Orient
    Wycombe 2 v 0 Plymouth (FA Cup)
    Wycombe 1 v 1 Fulham (EFL Cup)
    (Wycombe lost on penalties)

    Latest Odds
    Millers 16/5 Draw 2/1 Wycombe 8/11
Very good odds on us to win.

    Recent Meetings
    (18/3/2025)
    Rotherham 2 v 3 Wycombe (L1)
    Sibley, Clarke-Harris

    (24/08/2024)
    Wycombe 2 v 0 Rotherham (L1)

For the historians amongst us, the last time we won at home against Wycombe was on 16 September 2000, at Millmoor. A grim attendance of 3,545 will have seen Guy Branston get the only goal of the game in our 1-0 victory.

    Summary
Wycombe are on a good run at the moment and are currently unbeaten in 7 league games. However, it's at home where they're strongest. Wycombe have scored 19 goals at home which is more than any other team in the league, most recently beating Lincoln City 3-2. Away from home, results are a bit of a contrast. They've only won 1 of their 8 league games and scored 6 goals, although it is also worth noting that they are unbeaten in their last 3 games on the road, winning at Wigan and then drawing with Blackpool and Port Vale.

Everything points to a tight affair on Saturday and it won't be easy against a team who are evidently hard to beat under Michael Duff. I certainly can't remember many classics against Wycombe in recent times but the game on Saturday ought to be an interesting encounter between two teams who are both on a good run of form.Wycombe have some good players and I think it'll be decided by the odd goal. Let's hope it goes in our favour.

    Enjoy the game, UTM.

Heliospan, another good write up much appreciated.

Yes indeed two of the best in form teams clash, which on paper shouldn't be a boring affair.

Their firepower looks impressive with those stats and like you say, Onyedinma and Woodrow sound a handful but, and it's a more reassuring feeling, we have Holmes back and hopefully Raggett. In all fairness, does the latter deserve to play in front of Douglas who has done very well for us of late?

Hopefully Jordan will be up for it and it's great to see such commitment from a player when many would have cried off taking weeks off.

Midfield goals from Benson, Gore, Spence would also be welcome. Martha should start out wide and not up front!.

    Roll on tomorrow and UTM!

Yes, loving the in depth prematch analysis Helio.

I'm MIA tomorrow so fear for us as the only other league game I've missed at NYS this season was Stockport. Grandson will still be there though representing my grumpiness.

Hammy said in interview that he had talked to a couple of their players preseason and they have obviously chosen Wycombe ? I wonder who ?

    Thanks for the intro Helio.

The stats suggest that this has DRAW written all over it. Hope we can continue the run of clean sheets and forge another of our special 'team' goals.

If Hugill is back to more or less his full fitness it's a game we can win. Tom Holmes back that's a big plus. Move James to left wing back. Martha or Benson behind lone forward.

Looking forward to this. Hopefully, Wyc will come to win and therefore throw a few players forward, allowing us to play. Its a shame we have such a depleated forward line.

I am going to go for a 0-0 draw but hope for more!

Confidence in the miller to win this. Wycombe have picked up form but TBF duff had the perfect fixture list to pull it all together. Most of there points were Vs teams either in poor form or weakened teams.
Keep Woodrow quiet (won't be easy) and we win this.
