Who needs a defence with shooting boots like that? Fans have had great value for money there tonight - great show of resilience by us - plus a great show by the younger players and Josh Benson - top drawer hat trick

    Gladly!

After the shambolic first ten minutes I thought we were going to get drubbed. Arguably our best central defenders were playing like 3 strangers picked up from the supporters at the pub near the ground.

Some cracking goals kept us in the game, and Hammy's substitutions at half-time put paid to any thoughts that we wouldn't be too unhappy to loose.

I was expecting Dan Gore to look a little happier at scoring his first goal

Where's Les "I can remember when..." Payne when you need him? SEVEN goals away? Crikey!

How bad were they! Can't read anything into that. No fringe players pushed for a place when the league games resume.

EIGHT goals away at Crewe in '73.

    (I remember it well)

You certainly CAN read something into that. Putting the ball in the net 7 times is a great achievement against any team. Even more so when the stats show 9 attempts at goal, 8 on target.

First 15 minutes we were terrible, mainly due to playing Douglas away from the middle of the three Raggett and T. Holmes’s looking like non-league players and Jack Holmes’s who was just awful.
Then a great goal by Josh who I thought really played well and getting in front for halftime. Then we put on two proper defenders and took the two from the dog and duck off ( yes I know they aren’t match fit) and looked a lot better on that awful pitch. Benson was excellent but so was Kelly, although looking a yard off pace, he is an intelligent player that plays sensible simple passes and breaks up play well, shame we have him so late in his career. The other young lads did well and great to see them getting a chance and taking it. I have to finish on Jack Holmes’s he was awful all game he is slow, pulls out of tackles and failed to block crosses constantly, he simply isn’t good enough and a loan in January to see if he can make it and then if he fails it is time to let him go in the summer. I hope we keep going in this competition, said it before it is the only cup we can win and it would be lovely to get silverware in our centenary year.

I was there. Went on Riley?s and the coach got bricked pulling away from the ground. Like Salford, Crewe scored first too.

Seven at Darlington post-war in the cup.Team travelled there in a coach with the number plate, GET 7.
Some encouraging performances from some of the young lads. No keeper should ever be beaten from the half-way line in any circumstances.
