Charlton fell their 5th defeat in a row at home to Middlesbrough beaten by two Boro goals scored in the first half to one, an own goal in the second.

Somehow Charlton need to rediscover their early season form to graft out results. The really bad spell all started with the bad loss to Southampton. The team seems to have lost confidence and struggled with formations.

This was an emotional night at the Valley commemorating the life of Norman Barker who so sadly passed away during the abandoned Portsmouth home game.

Charlton's first half chances came from Sonny Carey and James Bree firing over. Riley McGree scored first for Boro and Morgan Whittaker rounded off their first half goals.

A change in the midfield second half with Greg Docherty, Karoy Anderson and Ibrahim Fullah stepping forward changed the momentum of the game. Fullah came closed and forced a good save from Boro GK Brynn.

With nine minutes remaining Charlton equalised thanks to good work from Lloyd Jones and Rob Apter down the right. Apter's powerful right-footed cross under pressure from Miles Leaburn, deflected off Boro's Edmundson for an own goal. Tanto Olaofe came close to equalising on 90 minutes but his long ball drifted wide.

Charlton goal: Edmundson (own goal) 81

Middlesbrough goals: McGree 34, Whittaker 45+4
