Biggest game in the club's history

That's what Eddie has called our next game, against Barcelona.

This thread isn't having a pop at Eddie, btw...but if the Barcelona game isn't it (and it just isn't, imo), then what is.

In terms of recent history, it's the Cup Final. A game can take on a greater significance afterwards because of the result (obviously it was already huge beforehand) and the whole thing, from the build-up, the game itself but particularly the celebrations in the city afterwards...well, I can't think of anything bigger.

In a wider sense, for me it's the Portsmouth game. I klnow the Leicester result wasn't pivotal because of results elsewhere but, if we'd not won the Portsmouth game, it would have put the final round of games in a different light for the teams around us.

Without Kelly's goal, we could well have been relegated into the 3rd tier and goodness knows what would have happened after that.

    Thoughts?

This is what it's all about.

It doesn't get bigger. Knock outs of the Champions League Verses Barcelona.

You can say Bayern, Real Madrid, Juventus rival the level Barca for continental prestige however, none are bigger.

Cue the 'Right here, Right now' Fatboy Slim track as the atmosphere builds.

In terms of progress of the club become a force in Europe and all the status that comes with it. Yeah I'd say it's the biggest step froward in the clubs current journey.

That said, this squad stands on the shoulders of former giants.

Without, Kelly's goal, Keegan's commitment to the club on two essential periods,
without Shearer committing his career to the club over possible personal glory,
without Rafa's professionalism and dedication to the fans to drag the club back up from the Championship,
this current match in the last 16 of the Champions League against the European Giant would not be possible.

That is the argument that this is the biggest game in the clubs recent history, We are the sum of our parts the collective of our history and culture.

    WE ARE UNITED!

We could argue all day about which game was the biggest - all mentioned above were huge but if you?re playing to go further than ever before in the most important tournament its possible for you to play in, then its this one.

I pray we turn up for it otherwise itll be hugely disappointing.

I guess he meant it exactly like that - the biggest game. Not the most important or make-or-brake type, just the highest profile in terms of coverage, TV audience etc
