V Sunderland - panel unanimously agree it was a wrong call by Tierney and we should have had a penalty.
Makes me feel sick. No consequence though just like the lame duck ref sending Off Gudmunson
Yep, things seem to be going against us a bit at the moment
In the private sector screwing up on your job can cost you your job, a demotion, pay cut or a non monetary thing such as lot of seniority or your shift preference.
Nothing ever happens with the Prem officials and they know it. All of us have inward groans on some of the ref assignments and we are just supporters. It's got to be way more obvious to professionals that make a living off the sport.
They really need to make an example of some of them and fire one or two and say you only get so many strikes and then your out.
I still think that every coach should be given three strikes a year and be able to use them when they wish for certain games. I think the other obvious thing is that when an official screws up this bad and it directly affects a match outcome that they should not be allowed to be involved in a match with that team the rest of the year. I think the article I saw referenced 18 of these incorrect decisions that had direct impacts on games.
if an official screws up enough then let them ref lg 1 or conference games at that payscale. I know the bleeding hearts will say "we all make mistakes". I gave up using that line 40 years ago in business. Doesn't mean I don't screw up. it just means I'm going to suffer some sort of monetary or professional reputation damage and I try real hard not to have that happen. I don't sense this at all amongst prem officials.
It's not just Leeds. Burnley has been hosed a lot this year along with several other teams that aren't of sufficient "clout" with the FA to avoid these mistakes by match officials.
FWIW- the concept of a "union" for these clowns is really offensive. They don't need protection against life threatening injuries, they don't get training from the union like the trades do and they certianly are not underpaid for the quality of their work. There are a 100 other applicants aspiring to officiate at the top level and many of these guys seem to think they are the reason people pay big dollars to be at the game.
In the NFL, performances are reviewed and if there is even 1 glaring (has to be obvious) mistake, the Official is usually out for the season. Of course the NFL has a much shorter season. Also, in the NFL, the officials are greatly aided by action replays etc. nevertheless, 1 error can theoretically mean OUT.
