    Is the season over now?

Is the season over now or are we going to give a run for 5th a real shot? All the ?I want to play in the champions league? players going to be up for qualifying for the champions league you just look for a club?

The season has just begun. It's an 8 game season. Every game is now a final.

The only people who can achieve or fail is the playing squad.

If the likes of Gordon thinks he's a Champions League player - Prove it! Go 8 from 8 and put the club back in the conversation for the top 5.

They don't make it, it's not the clubs fault that the players didn't perform.

Like Spurs, the players are to blame as much as the recruitment and managerial faults.

I have criticised Eddie in the past, and one of those criticisms was his inability to manage the squad with quick turnaround of games… but now, we are moving into where Eddie does shine.

Mackem’s on Sunday, then at least a week between games, and when he had the time to prep and can select the same players every game who will be rested, that’s when his ability to plan and drill comes into it’s own.

The teams ahead of us have a lot of games where they play each other, some are still in Europe or FA Cup too.

7 points behind 5th with 24 left to play for… I think 5th might be a step too far, not impossible but a real stretch.

Our toughest game is Arsenal away… so I’m gonna hope they beat Sporting and then they would play in a leg of the CL semi-final 3 days after us.

The week before they play City (away)… if they win that, then I think their focus will be massively on the CL fixture and we have a chance.

24 points from 8 games is tough, but the teams ahead of us have tougher fixtures or more games… not sure how far we can climb but I think 6th or 7th is achieveable.

    Well said Ian.

In response to the original question - no the season is not over.

Though whilst I agree the question is what Eddie does need to be able to play on more fronts. Yes, one game only per week might be his niche but is it because he lacks the squad depth or does he over train them! Whatever it is, I do like the guy. He is one of the more thoughtful, clever and strategic managers I have seen in this modern game.

    Great post, well reasoned dude!

Many a slip twix cup and lip as the saying goes.

A lot of football left to play. 8 wins from 8 would be superb! 24 points takes NUFC to 68 points.

Bin dips on 49 in 5th means that they'd need to win 6 and draw 1 of their last 8.

    Spot on, Ian.

Aye, he has his flaws but doesn't every manager?

He's the man for NUFC and we need to get behind him when things get tough.

Either that or we hound him out like the mackems...

Astonishing to find myself agreeing with Simon Jordan.

He makes a comment how the club could bring in Enrique or any other top line manager, none of them are gonna be able to do a better job than Eddie as it's simply down to straight finances. The club needs to close the gap. Increase sponsorship revenue, get the new stadium built, stop yapping about 5 yr plans and start to deliver.

Actions not words on the business side of the club need to step up to the levels Eddie is delivering on the footballing side of the club.

It's really as simple as that.
