    Portsmouth/Oxford

    Both won today, our position looking perilous, our non scoring donkeys are going to cost us

    Not good so it?s a must win at Preston and we need to go back to basics with the three forwards as clearly Sule won?t start;

    Ball in back of net = a goal 😭😭😭

    I still think that we will be OK; we’ll collect three points next weekend at Preston.

    More than one shot from one of the useless feckers would be nice, Oh how we laughed and joked when we had Hugill, Williams, Mayo, DeFreitas etc all of these would walk into this side

    We are still out of the relegation zone (just).
    We do need to somehow score a goal or two.
    A week to forget about all this until the Preston match

    Morrison has steadied the ship, and we look quite solid defensively now.

    But, what def can bring us down is our total lack of forward quality, alas. Can?t see how they ever can score a goal, and offensive midfielders with the potential to score are either injured or totally out of form (Price).

    And not only is there a lack of goals but we seem incapable of scoring from open play. We've scored 3 in the last 4 games, 1 from a goalmouth scramble from a corner, 1 from a deflected free kick, 1 from a penalty after a corner.

    Agreed! It?s as if there is no urgency to even try and score and we are settling for a point. Maja, Dike and Heggebo are big lads but you would not have thought it as too often they are out muscled even if on the rare occasion the ball comes into the box!

    Yes Morrison is doing a good job but tactics together with the constant back and sideways passing comes from the coaches!

    At least Leicester lost but these other results clearly show that we certainly aren't out of the woods yet. Our remaining games may look more favourable on paper than those facing other relegation contenders but our fate has to be in our own hands.

    It is pleasing to see us showing more attacking intent and starting to now create more openings and opportunities but it's obvious to everyone that we lack quality in the final third. I don't think we lack a sense of urgency in front of goal though but rather the opposite. I think we are so desperate to score that we don't take just that little bit more time to be more composed so that the wrong decisions are made with passes or shots snatched. On the other hand, whilst there does seem more belief that we can get forward, there remains a lack of confidence with the final ball so that shooting opportunities are sometimes not taken.

    Given our obvious need to get more points on the board we need to start winning games not just avoid losing them which means putting the ball in the back of the net. Our present forward line up seems incapable of this and our corners and set piece deliveries need to be much better if the likes of Campbell or Phillips are going to be able to help out.

    We have improved in other areas of the pitch however, especially defensively, which means that we are beginning to look more comfortable in games. I still wouldn't start them or risk them in games where we look more vulnerable, but I'd certainly like to see Sule and BostocK being brought on in such matches. They may lack experience but both have pace and ability and, as Al frequently comments, could they do worse than Heggebo or Price for example in terms of end product? The bottom line is that we need the points and for that we need to start scoring goals.
