    Would

An Elvis 8th place finish equal or better Docs 6th.

    I'll argue it would.

    Here's why

    1. Shambolic nature of hunt for new head coach.

    2 More wins....if we did finish 8th.

    3. Better home record

    4. Dabs to contend with

    5. Doc took over when we were on an upward curve, Elvis the opposite.

Table finishing position and points total don't lie. 6th has to be better than 8th, you get more prize money for it so it's better.

We need two more wins then the two seasons' points totals will be the same, three wins or two and a draw and it's more - less than that and the points total is less. Then Of course the argument is that we had easier games this season in the bottom six. 42 points and a top six finish has to be better thn 42 points and a bottom six finish surely? However the counter to that argument is St. Mirren and Killie were also top six in 2023 /24 whilst Aberdeen and Hibs both had poor seasons. And so it goes on, Falkirk had an unusually strong season this season, Aberdeen p1sh again etc. The DAB thing just isn't even a thing for me, 12 teams in the division both seasons including Ross County in 2023/24 who have always seemed to have some kind of Indian sign over us..

In short you can't really compare. Docherty did well that season, Pressley has done well enough this season given the close season shambles. Next season is a new start, let's hope Pressley can kick on a bit. Always assuming our eternally unpredictable CEO doesn't punt him of course.

Take your points but I respectfully disagree 😆......I've read a lot on various sites over the last few days and getting fairly ***** seek of stick Elvis getting from a sizeable minority.

From guys saying they would rather be championship than btm 4, should be secure earlier ....if we don't get the one place available in top 6 we are never gonna be secure earlier.

Just for me.....what does kicking on next season looks like?

    7th or 8th if we don't get 8th, top 6?

I don't think you can measure progress by such fine margins

    Curious

On the other hand the CLUB can kick on hugely.....but wont

Kicking on is seeing better football and being secure from relegation threat much earlier. Progress is simple - incremental improvement - doesn't have to be measured by places higher in the league or an amount more points, too many external variables impinging on those, just visible improvement in the performances on the pitch. A lot of this season, especially early on, performances were awful - get rid of that aspect and there's an improvement straight off the bat.

So we have improved incredibly since Doon by Xmas first few weeks?

That's been visible......so he's done that this season?

Done a bit of digging and can't find any season where team who has finished 8th have been safe from relegation pre split.

Assuming budgets are similar a top 6 finish will always outdo a bottom 6 finish.
The points total at end is irrelevant as you're playing worse teams in bottom 6.
It's a tough gig at dens,I get that but pressley should be looking to imrove on next season and aim for top 6 for sure assuming he is still manager.
He didn't have the best preparation so he gets a pass for the shocking football at start of season,we have definitely improved.
    Hopefully it continues next season.

To finish in top 6 we will probably have to finish above 5 clubs who get bigger attendances than us to get 6th for what's likely to be the 1 place available.

    That's not gonna happen

More I think about it the more I'm leaning towards 8th place this year at least equals Dochertys 6th.

Think there should be something like Champions league format after split. All start from scratch and results against each other are all that matters. Stop the league earlier so there could be home and away fixtures. No league won by Christmas, no relegation by Christmas.
