Though all the music theory behind it still scrambles my brain 😀, can't beat the sound of the minor third so will definitely look into the first video more to learn other places on the fretboard where I can use it.

Though I know a lot of slide guitar is played in open tunings, I've not seen the tip of just tuning the top E down to a D before so will have a go at that. I've struggled with control when I've attempted slide playing before but this will encourage me to have another go.

Hideaway, along with the cover of Otis Rush's All my love, was one of my favourite tracks from the classic Clapton/ Bluesbreakers Beano album. I've only ever got so far in mastering it though so will have to revisit that too now.

Anyhow, I trust the injury to your hand has cleared up and you are able to play again yourself now. Thanks again for posting!

Hi , I have found a way round it by using my midlle finger more when finger picking or and ocasionally when using a pick .
I never did music at school , so I have found it hard , it must be great for the knowledge to be come natural .

Soulman you may remember our discussing my 2 guitars (now, ashamedly, in the loft) A Washburn acoustic and a blue Stratocaster.
Sadly, the arthritis in my hands dictated that my strumming days (I do mean strumming - the House of the Rising Sun etc)) are over.

Both our sons are musical with the elder (Canada) having a band some years ago. (Drums, Keyboard and Vocals) I like to fraudulently claim they got in from me !

In all sincerity, I was brought up in a house that had an old piano. I did similarly with our 2 sons both of whom played the piano because it was there, which gave them the spark of musical interest.

The only music I ever did at school revolved around listening to Classical music and learning a bit about some of the composers. I appreciate classical music more now but I found it dead boring then.

I never had proper music lessons either so am self taught which was a lot harder in the days before the internet when you had to rely on just a few "how to play guitar" type books or else repeatedly having to lift the needle up and down off the vinyl to try and learn off the record. So much easier now to find stuff to help you play with some really good you tube tutorials to help.

I'm beginning to understand some basic music theory, but mostly I find it really difficult to digest. I'm sure I would be a better player if I knew more and had all the scales and modes and stuff down, but as long as I can just learn the songs or bits I want to learn and reach a certain level of proficiency with that, I'm happy. After all, that's the main thing isn't it? Of course, like anything in life, you have to put some effort in to feel rewarded with a sense of achievement, but it shouldn't feel too much like hard work and it's about getting enjoyment out of playing.

I'd love to be able to play piano/ keyboard Prando and have started to learn basic chord shapes which I've used when I record stuff but fear that both being able to adequately sight read music and the required two handed co-ordination are well beyond me 😞

They say that it's never too late to learn an instrument but I appreciate that arthritis in the hands can make doing so extremely difficult if not impossible so I'm really sorry to hear that you suffer from it. My brother, who was always good at finger picking guitar styles, now rarely plays because of a similar issue.
