Totally agree Lloyd. In the USA veterans are treated like royalty and with so much respect. In this country veterans should be looked after in the same way even with housing if needed.

With so few left now who fought in WW2 and being several generations down the line since, I suppose it was always eventually going to come to this and it naturally means more to generations like our own who had close relatives who served and died in the war and who were born in the shadow of it, if not during it. But yes, I think we certainly should remember the sacrifices made.

WW2 wasn't a "war of choice" for Britain and there was a moral aspect to it to defeat fascism and the threat to both allies and ourselves. It cost the lives of not only so many who served, but of a great many innocent civilians and impacted on so many families that it should not be forgotten for that reason alone, let alone as standing as lesson for doing our very best to avoid such a catastrophic conflict again.

Hi , I watched the Dutch line the street and applaud 11 of our WW2 vetts ,including one lady .
The London taxi drivers took them over .
They interview one who was involved in Operation Market Garden , he could of been on the front line with my Dad who came back after losing his leg .
One Grandad was in WW1 , it's hard to believe that a lot of my family was involved in both wars .
My generation are the last to known and to have a link to the past .
A lot soldiers and Saylor's from the Falkland conflict are now pensioners .

You are correct Omegstrat, we are the last generation with direct links to those involved in WW2. Prior to being in the police force, my father was in the Welsh Guards and therefore when war broke out he was called up to train recruits. I always remembered him telling me that he got to know these recruits personally but also knew that many of them would not return. We should therefore remember the sacrifices made.

The problem is that we do not learn the lessons of the past. You only have to look at Ukraine and the Middle East at the present moment. While I think that Starmer has been awful on the domestic front he has been correct in how he has dealt with the war in the Middle East. Left to the likes of Trump, Putin, the littler rocket man etc. this planet would not have a future.

Correct Omeg. I have so much time for our military. My half brother is currently in Cyprus flying a typhoon and shared photos with Mick.
