Big ears made a big mistake invoking Godwin's Law. It just shows his own lack of imagination and historical ignorance as well as trivialising the horror of the nazis.

I think most people agree (Tories apart) it was not a political statement but a humanitarian one. And this supposedly Tax avoidance is not a dispute about tax its about employment status. I suggest if someone post a link ..Read the fecking thing afore ye post it !! and I would direct that at the person who posted the link.Originally posted by Basingstokered View PostThe bbc has a policy of high profile employees not making political statements.
So what your saying is Gary can avoid paying his taxes depriving the Govt of money to fund policy. They then have to impose policies they can find and Gary who doesn’t want to pay his taxes thinks he can spout nonsense. Gary maybe if loudmouth celebs like you paid your fair share the Govt could impose all the pie in the sky nonsense you suggest.Last edited by stewarty27; 11-03-2023, 08:01 PM.

The employment status dispute will be about whether the tax payments of Gary will be correct. Given his history he’s probably evaded it. Gary let us know more of your policies the Govt should fund whilst you avoid your taxesOriginally posted by stewarty27 View PostI think most people agree (Tories apart) it was not a political statement but a humanitarian one. Exactly, then we agree its first and foremost a dispute about Employment status the tax situation is secondary. And the Government don't fund Lineker or anyone else its the other way around.

Why would the HMRC be interested in anything other than tax quote simply Lineker has simply used employment status to avoid tax. Where have I said the Govt fund Lineker ?Originally posted by stewarty27 View PostExactly, then we agree its first and foremost a dispute about Employment status the tax situation is secondary. We will never know as Linkekar is someone who simply avoids taxes isn’t he. Astounding that the lefties who all want the Govt to spend money don’t mind when one of them avoids tax.Originally posted by Donanddusted View PostDo you think if he "paid [his] fair share the Govt [would] impose all the pie in the sky nonsense [he] suggest[s]"?
Do you his tax status is directly linked to free speech?
The Tories would like you to join one of their "Think tanks", if so.
You could go very far.

Your not getting this at all are you. There needs to be a judgement on his employment status before the proper tax levy can be levelled. HMRC think he should pay Lineker and his advisers think he shouldn't. Why would anyone pay more tax than they need to ? Would you ? we are talking the difference of 5M here. There is absolutely no tax avoidance here but purely a dispute. Either way you and his detractors are playing diverting game the issue at hand is can Lineker comment on humanitarian issues as an employee of the BBC and whether there is a huge hypocrisy issue.Originally posted by Basingstokered View PostWhy would the HMRC be interested in anything other than tax quote simply Lineker has simply used employment status to avoid tax. I’m sure Lineker and his advisors claimed there was no tax avoidance when he had to pay unpaid taxes the last time. So Lineker can comment on humanitarian issues but never does only refugees and govt policy. If Lineker wants to dish it out he can take itOriginally posted by stewarty27 View PostYour not getting this at all are you. In 1930s Germany how do you think Fascism and the Nazis came to power, What sort of language was used what sort of politics was being punted ? I'll tell you it was to stoke up resentment against refugees, human rights defenders and civil servants Jews, gypsies, Gays, Now you go back and read what Braverman and the Tories are saying today the language is almost identical. History proves the Germany nation did not challenge it and was swept along. Fu5k that !! Surely an edgy guy like yer sel must see the dangers.Originally posted by Jupiter View PostBig ears made a big mistake invoking Godwin's Law. He wasn't "representing the BBC" when making comments on his personal Twitter account.
Lots of MPs/MSPs spout an awful lot of shyte on their Twitter accounts but don't get held to account to this degree.
Feel free to criticise the smug arse but that's you and everyone else's right.
Don't conflate his job with his personal opinions.

Your right it was his personal account however if a teacher, police officer, firefighter and the likes would he held accountable for anything they post then so can Gary. Of course Gary won’t agree he will just think they should pay their taxes whilst he shouldn’t have to.Originally posted by Donanddusted View PostHe wasn't "representing the BBC" when making comments on his personal Twitter account.
