I'm with you on that. My once socialist sister sent her son to one of those schools. Disgusts me as he grows up with a sense of superiority and entitlement.

It's like people who get het up about "taking the knee". I totally agree this has lost its original meaning since leaving the US, when Kapernick used it to protest against police brutality by not standing for the national anthem. That was an act that really resonated (positively and negatively) with American sports fans, and across theboverly patriotic country as a whole. But no matter what I think about its impact on these shores, who are we to tell a black athlete it's nonsense, or to criticise their colleagues who stand (or kneel) in solidarity. It doesn't hurt us, and it might send a posotive message to others.

Or its like those of a certain generation thinking people with mental health issues just need to man up "like they did in my day", or they are using them to scive off work.

The world changes, people who have been historically oppressed get more of a voice, and it's not our place to tell those people what they can and can't be offended by when we don't understand their situation. I don't understand people's situations, but I try to educate myself as to why certain words and actions may cause offence.

And queue the wokerati, bleeding heart lefty, liberal bollox retorts.
        Funzie.

Jezzo you are all over the shop here, Everything else you impose on us smacks of Conservative belief systems. And here you are berating the private schools ! I wonder where your Nephew get his sense of superiority and entitlement from And your use of Wokerati as a derogatory term says it all really. My OP was to highlight the contradiction the Jewish people manifest towards the oppression they serve on the Palestinian people. If you happen to be Jewish this is not meant to be offensive just a factual observation.

Where have I ever given any indication of even have the remotest bit of conservative belief or sympathy?

My use of wokerati was lifted straight from you. Not a word I had ever contemplated using it until I saw you use it like a tool a few posts back.

I never posted directly in response to you, just a general observation of many general attitudes in this country. But I agree with the contradiction of the Israeli state and their position against the Palestinians. No, I'm not Jewish. I have many Israeli friends who don't share the views of the state, and their situation isn't as simply black and white as we like to make out (although the Israeli's certain hold the upper hand in terms of military strength).

But you can f**k right off to back to deludedville if you think I have a conservative bone in my body.

              • Well then?

Will you be taking your chance to swear allegiance to your new king?

What an opportunity, how inclusive , this is what a modern monarchy looks like.

It's not just for the toffs now, we can all join in.

                    • I don't see why we have to swear allegiance to Joey Harper, but I'm up for it anyway.

This pretty much sums it up. Not a particularly well balanced argument from Mr Baker, more of a rant, so in short:
It's a load if self-celebratory and self-serving sh*t for a billionaire, at the cost of around £100m to the tax payer, and is sometiing that the majority of the population couldn't give a toss about. And it's a pointless ritual that no other monarchy bothers with.

                          God save the king.

If the king wants to be a moderniser, he won’t let UK taxpayers pick up the bill for this self-serving tradition, says former Lib Dem MP Norman Baker

                          • Is the new phone alert going to be used on Corontion day, sounding at the time we all need to chant at the top of our voices
"I swear that I will pay true allegiance to your majesty, and to your heirs and successors (including Andrew) according to law. So help me God."

                            It's all a bit Gilead.

I thought Frankie's show was more an English Royalty historical with the odd barb thrown in.

However, for me, Harry Enfield will always be
