  • Blimey, a couple of site monsters triggered by the McInally post, and a huge surprise at their gullibility.

Now bring on the excuses, caveats, and grumblings.

One of Aberdeen's more embarrassing moments. Never understood why we didn't keep to our agreement. One salary made such a difference?

I don't think we wanted to keep Silky on our books, despite his late-season heroics at the end of 1994-95. I think the wage bill was getting out of control at the time, with Bosman affecting clubs of our size and financial clout more than anyone, and it was Ebbe from 99 onwards who was given the task of reducing the salary outgoings once the transfer fee income dried up. By then the financial damage had been done by Willie Miller, Aitken and Alex "****ing" Miller and some crazy fees paid for plodders. The last-mentioned (the ****) was most guilty, since the effects of Bosman were already known, and for the board to sanction the profligacy was near-suicidal.

But was he ever actually a Don ? IIRC those pictures were taken before the actual signing. Then some glitch on the Peter Hetherington side of the deal stopped it ever happening.

The scarf above the heid pic is the internationally-accepted verification of membership of the new club. FACT.

The deal never happened, but it would have been a good one for us. McInally was a demon in the middle of the park. Raith’s medical team picked up a hitherto hidden injury of which even Hetherston was unaware, and that kyboshed the move. McInally said that it was one of the biggest disappointments of his career.

Well, he was pictured with a Dons' sark shakin' hands wi Aitken, there may even be an obligatory scarf ower the heid picture in existence.
Then Peter "Silky" Hetherston, the makeweight going in the opposite direction, was found to have shrapnel from the most recent desert campaign lodged near some major organs (or mebbe a hooky knee?), and the deal fell through.

                          • Dylan McGeouch signs for Forest Green Rovers.
I know he didn't do much for us, but thought he would have got something by now.

Started for them this afternoon in the FA Cup, which was on the BBC.

Never happened sadly, but all the best to him.
