Not defending him (though I am willing to give him another month) but I suspect his answer would be that he?s not had the players to execute his system until now. I suspect that?s partly why he relies on Nielsen so much. Karlsson too now should understand what he wants.

I don?t think it?s true to say we have only 4 attacking players as the full backs are clearly meant to be attacking. Hence the two sitting midfielders who cover the centre, with the centre backs covering the FB positions.

    Problem is, it?s not working.

How many players in that team yesterday (and the other games this season) are not his signings?

Not many, yet the performances and results are exactly the same.

Hes got zero excuses left, this is on him and his players - 100%

It depends on what you mean by his players.

I would say that Jensen,Karlsson and Nilsen are definitely his signings but the clubs transfer process usually consists of players being recommended by the requirement team with Cormack, the manager and Gunn until last week agreeing to who we sign.

Keskinen for example was a player we were looking at when Robson was the manager so he was getting signed whether Thelin was here or not.

To me this signing strategy is a big part of our problems, you are asking why Richardson and Phillips are doing well at St Mirren under Stephen Robinson. I think its because they will be scouting these players and their manager will be deciding if they will be a good fit for the way he sets up his team.

This whole requirement team recommending players by watching video clips of them is really not working for us.

Don’t believe much of the team is ‘his’ either but either way you’d think he’d manage to get more out of them.

Several teams have new managers this season, they’ve not all got hand picked teams. They’re still achieving more than us.

Do I think our behind the scenes is a mess with little cohesion or overriding philosophy? 100% (and I don’t think Gunn had an iota of input into signings like suggested above). The Tech Director role effectively being added to the role of one JT’s cohorts was just lazy and defeated the purpose of a ‘neutral’ continuity person overseeing and setting the agenda.

Hopefully the new DOF comes in and works wonders whilst telling Dave to keep his neb out. Signing managers to play ‘a certain way’. It’s another reason to stick with JT (for now), no point if it’s going to be the ‘FMB’ appointing his replacement. I hope my reading that Gunn got the dunt because Dave recognised the need for change is correct and not actually just us throwing even more eggs in JT?s basket.

This is off the club website when Gunn was first appointed director of football in 2021.

Cormack done multiple interviews back then where he explained the clubs transfer process and how he and Gunn were involved.

Exactly - Gunn was the guy overseeing all the football operations - its in the job title - how anyone can think that didnt include heavy involvement in all aspects of transfer activity I really dont know.

Are our current issues all his fault - absolutely not, but hes got to take his share of the blame and its probably why hes not here any longer.

Looking at yesterdays team, remembering Jimmy officially joined in June 24 but was announced in April 24

Mitov - signed June 24, possibly not Thelin too involved.
              Jensen - 100% Thelin signing
              Knoester - 100% Thelin signing
Dorrington - 100% Thelin signing (bringing him back)
              Gyamfi - 100% Thelin signing
              Shinnie - Not Thelin
              Armstrong - 100% Thelin signing
              Karlsson - 100% Thelin signing
              Aouchiche - 100% Thelin signing
Keskinen - signed Aug 24. Thelin must have had a say
Nisbet - 100% Thelin signing (bringing him back)

              Subs
              Suman - 100% Thelin signing
Devlin - Thelin gave him a contract extension
              Nilsen - 100% Thelin signing
Polvara - Not Thelin (not playing)
Clarkson - Not Thelin (not playing)
              Milanovic - 100% Thelin signing
              Palaversa - 100% Thelin signing
Milne - youth product (not playing)
              Lazetic - 100% Thelin signing

By 100% Thelin signing, I mean he must be telling the recruitment team what he wants - the attributes in a player - reviewing the options presented to him and making his pick. Its his team. It should be able to play his system, yet it cannot for some reason.

Either he finds a solution very quickly or he will have to go.

Im not entirely sure that a lot of those players are 100% Thelins signings moog, for example Im not sure that Thelin would have heard of Milanovic or Armstrong before the requirement team showed him a video of them this summer. But you are right in he has been presented them and given them the ok.

I just dont agree with that way of signing players for a club like us because it hasnt worked the majority of the time and I cant see it changing anytime soon.

As far as Thelin goes he is at fault for a lot of our issues but I dont agree with people saying its 100% on him, its very naive of people to just keep blaming the managers and think if we get rid of them then everything will end up being rosey.

At the end of the day if we dont start winning games then Thelin will get fired but we have seen this picture before.

There is clearly issues with how the club is being run and I can see us having the same problems once Thelin is gone just like we have after Glass,Goodwin and Robson all got fired as well.

Agree its not 100% Thelin, all areas of the club have a share of the blame.

Theres something wrong in the culture of the club. We see the same issues too many times with too many different sets of manager and players for it to be coincidence.

Theres a serious longstanding attitude problem with players. The amount of times they dont perform or show the expected attitude and desire is ridiculous.

Phillips & Richardson now look like footballers since theyve left us. Why is that?

Goodwin, utter disaster here, did well at St Mirren and is doing well at the joot - why is that?

Cultural issues are hard to shift, as we keep seeing.
