Sure it may be necessary for farmers and ranchers to keep firearms at home, the wildlife being potentially more menacing than our foxes and hedgehogs, but beyond that what's the justification?
Interesting that as you approach the border with so called 'lawless' Mexico there are countless signs reminding US citizens that it is illegal to carry guns and ammo into Mexico. Doesn't reflect very favourably on the US, imo.
