OT. The futures Bright, the Futures Brexit!!!

Ah, the good old centrist revolution that I have been wanting for some 25 years now! The right wing of the tories will sell us down the river as a playting of globalisation, the left wing of the labour party will bankrupt us in a few years by trying to deliver the undeliverable, no matter how well intentioned.

The options? The Libdems remain pointless, the SNP, DUP, UUP, SF and PC are irrelevant to most voters, the Greens (who I feel aligned to on their primary ambitions) will never gain traction, UKIP-Brexit parties etc are one trick ponies. The rest: are more extreme versions of the two primary parties and some time wasters

So, lets look at my constituency. The standing Tory candidate could prove to be a *****phile serial killer and still romp home with a 30,000 majority. So it doesn't matter what I vote.

NEVER have I felt so disenfranchised. Its extraordinary that after the centuries of struggle to get universal suffrage, we now cannot find a single decent party with sensible policies to use that hard fought vote on.

In India, apparently, there is a polling card box for ‘none of the above’. Not sure what happens if it polls more votes than any of the candidates but I think it would win this time around if employed here tomorrow.

Voting strictly on the basis of incompetence being less damaging than evil I shall (actually already have via postal vote) be voting Labour.

Sadly I don’t hold out much more hope for tomorrow than I do for tonight...but at least if we lose tonight there’s a chance to put things right on Saturday. If Johnson wins tomorrow that’ll be five years of dreadful, right wing, screw the people, rich get richer, poor work longer, policies to come.
How I hope for a hung Parliament and the end of Johnson, Corbyn and Swinson...be even better than a last minute Marriott winner...and about as likely.

It does confirm my view that the majority of the electorate are thick and just vote for the slogan they can read! Anything more than 3 words and they can't decipher it, Trump the referendum and this election have demonstrated that very clearly.

Of course Johnson now has to actually be Prime Minister, which will take more than waffle, slogans and churning out obvious lies.

This election shows how undemocratic the first past the post system really is. An increase in their vote of a mere 1.2% has seen them move from a party without an overall majority and needing to bribe the DUP in order to grab power to a party with a majority of just shy of 80 seats thatcan, in effect, do what the hell they like. That, IMO, is exactly what they will do.

rA won't like it but Brexit is going to happen as of 311/1/20. End of. As GP wrote but taken from a different viewpoint, around 70% of the electorate did not vote for the Tories. However, votes not cast don't count so the stat rA can realistically use is that 56.4% of those that did vote, didn't vote Tory. Despite that, the Tories will see the result as a huge mandate to carry out their policies with gay abandon (I expect a few comments on that choice of phrase).

What will the result mean for the UK? Obviously, Brexit is going to happen, that is crystal clear. For the rest, it will all depend on which Boris Johnson stands up now he has that majority. Will it be the right wing slave of the 1% or will it be the "one nation Tory" he would have us believe he is. As with everything, the truth will lie somewhere in the middle. My thoughts are that he can help the 1% as much as he likes PROVIDED he doesn't have the NHS get run on the USA model, reduces child poverty, reduces the need for the UKs fastest growing industry - Food Banks, doesn't screw over the workers by changing the Law to favour employers even more a la USA, doesn't change consumer protection Law to favour US companies and methods to allow chlorinated chicken, growth hormone laden beef, pesticides proven to cause cancer etc. , doesn't raise the pensionable age to 75 or anywhere near that.

It is my fear that those who have given him this mandate by voting Tory for the first time simply to get Brexit through will rue doing so because of all the things I have just listed, things I don't believe any Brexit supporter actually wants to happen. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

No...RA’s take on the election is that it was dominated by two things...Corbyn’s inadequacies and Brexit.

Personally I continue to believe that Johnson is a buffoon and that Brexit is a massive mistake but this was the ‘Brexit Election’ and the outcome was overwhelming. I can’t argue with that.

Probably not helped by people with plenty to say on the subject ultimately abdicating their responsibility to vote but I suppose, in the circumstances, your decision to consistently oppose Brexit and then not ‘waste your shoe leather’ by actually voting tells it’s own story.

At least we’ve seen the end of Corbyn, Swinson and possibly Farage but as MoP says...’time to work together’ and make the most of what, imo, is a bloody awful outcome.

Hopefully we’ve hit rock bottom and a new party of centrism that we can both support might arise from the ashes...going to take a while though, at least five years, maybe another decade.

However much the losing side hated it, it should have been respected.

Had it been settled, then this election would have been very different.

I'll be a pensioner by then and happy to have all the free things that Labour wanted to give away off the magic money tree without having to contribute my pennyworth. So centrist, no: full blooded socialist vote for me by then, if I still own any shoes.

NB my vote, had it been cast, would have led to the exact self same Conservative 18,500 majority over Labour in my constituency. LibDems couldn't even get out of 3rd place despite 6% swing to them from tory and Labour vote down by 5%.

My vote went much the same way...Tory got about 9,000 more than everyone else put together...it’s the number of people who don’t bother, despite being politically aware and knowledgeable, that frustrates me.

Apparently Corbyn’s going to review the situation. I’d done that by about eleven o’clock last night!

I think, to be fair, I had assessed Corbyn's situation correctly by about 15 September 2015. It took him a few years but he has rather spectacularly set back the labour movement by at least 5 years, if not a generation. The opportunity was there for the party to step up and take control of the present situation, and maybe return to power for a sustained spell, but, no, he blew it, by. er, being him. Well done Agent Corbyn.

I can now see the wisdom of several colleagues of mine, who, amongst others, joined the labour party back in 2015 in order to vote Corbyn into power: they were, of course, died in the wool blues. Best £ 50 they spent.

I can officially get a pension in June 2021, but will probably defer the benefit for a few years
