Probably key to it as well. The South Koreans were first out the blocks. Test everyone, isolate the infected and let it fade out by stopping new cases.
We will suffer for that delay now and the failure to shut down the borders. Air travel in particular.
    Has somebody hacked Tricky’s account?

Covid-19 I can cope with...but Tricky being in agreement and posting something reasonable...just too much!!

Interesting though that Sweden is following a different path and avoiding lock down?

Also evidence does not support closing borders and suspending air travel actually has any effect. More a knee jerk reaction which looks as if somethings being done.

The fact is that once the virus is in testing seems to be the way to tackle it.

          Pity...I preferred the ‘hacked’ version.

South Korea tested anything that moved and shut everything down and got away very lightly....... after closing Hubei province much of China, allegedly, got off lightly.

Sweden still aren't sure whether they got it right according to one of their top virologists last night and don't know whhich way it will go.

South Korea did not shut everything down.

South Korea has emerged as a sign of hope and a model to emulate. The country of 50 million appears to have greatly slowed its epidemic; it reported only 74 new cases today, down from 909 at its peak on 29 February. And it has done so without locking down entire cities or taking some of the other authoritarian measures that helped China bring its epidemic under control.

Behind its success so far has been the most expansive and well-organized testing program in the world, combined with extensive efforts to isolate infected people and trace and quarantine their contacts. South Korea has tested more than 270,000 people, which amounts to more than 5200 tests per million inhabitants—more than any other country except tiny Bahrain.

So the Swedish approach may not be as daft as it sounds. Lord knows why our Government ignored either this approach or the quicker lock down approach but hey ho in Johnson we trust!!

              • Well now even the most visually impaired of ‘blind faithers’ have given up on the top 6, and with the outcome of the EFL charge being the only thing that matters to the short term future of DCFC, is it time to welcome back our old ‘friend’ the Brexit thread?

It’s only about five months away now and, regardless of one’s ‘pro or con’ Brexit stance over the last four plus years...isn’t it now totally ridiculous and likely to be horribly damaging to this country, to try and plough ahead with the same schedule given the impact Covid has had this year and may, by most scientific accounts, have again this winter?

                  Give it up, it's happening.
The EU have weeks to decide which way they want to cut their own throats. Before you say it, no we aren't under the cosh, recent talks have shown that.
Barnier is already crumbling, despite the screams that the EU doesn't have to give up anything.
                  More propaganda to come.

                  and go ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Ah...that emotive language of individuals ‘crumbling’ and talk of ‘screams’ again - when what you really mean is people you disagree with.
It’s almost as if you’ve been reading the Daily Express.
Now...forget your ‘propaganda’, take your blinkers off and think...does it really make sense to implement the biggest economic change to this country in the last half century against a background of five months spent fighting a pandemic, the probability that that fight will start again in the winter and the (unavoidable thanks to Covid) massive national debt?

Can you think of anything else...Sport, Entertainment, Business, treatment of pre-existing health conditions, Construction, Travel, Leisure, Education, Banking...that has carried on regardless since Covid-19 made its unwelcome interruption to all our lives...why should Brexit be any different?

                    • I would argue that many things went on uninterrupted during covid lockdown with people working from home, including banking, predominantly in the service sector. Construction was a mixed bag, but both my construction clients continued unaffected. Obviously retail and leisure sector didn't, but actually on line sellers and logistics companies probably had a field day.

The reason why I agree that the date wants shifting is more that the politicians and civil servants, particularly in treasury and HMRC have been taken away from Brexit planning and onto covid planning and, latterly, enforcement.

So I agree with rA sentiment although not necessarily the entire logic

The only propaganda is the fake news you lap up, still one can't expect the simple to understand complex issues!

That's what they are after. An extension suits them as we get hit with the corona bail out.
It also plays into your line then, but but but we are paying more money in with no say in the EU .

We delay anything, our hands are tied doing anything. Stop negotiating/don't sign anything without our say so/ keep paying.

This doesn't have to be painful. It's as hard as the EU wants it to be. It may have escaped your notice, but COVID hurt them as well.
I suggest you listen to the EU parliament conversations. Their discontent at the lack of a deal is growing.
It always gets twisted on how terrible it is for us?

On an off note, did you take note of Verhofstadt this week? I don't particularly like the man, as he's a hardened federalist. Yet had to agree with him this week. His slaughtering of Merkel and Germany over China, was spot on.
The EU chief suggested "Selling cars" to China was "More important" to Germany than taking a "Firm stance" on Beijing.

His remarks come as German Chancellor Angela Merkel comes under increasing amounts of pressure to do more to defend Hong Kong over China's controversial new security law.

Mrs Merkel is said to have taken a light touch approach to China because of Germany's huge trade reliance on the country.

The criticism comes after it was believed Germany would take a hardline approach against China when it resumed the rotating presidency of the European Union.

Ms Merkel previously said of China: "We have a trade relationship, but we have different societal and political views, particularly when it comes to human rights and the rule of law."

Naw, nothing gets in the way of German supremecy, even the EU
