On a similar tack but different genre, the worlds premier neo rockabilly band (although there are about a dozen other bands who claim this) THE POLECATS are playing their only U.K. gig of the year on August 11 at Derby’s Hairy Dog. I’ll be there being even less sociable than normal as I’ll be scribbling a review for my magazine and possibly psyching myself up for an interview with the band (hopefully not I’m a useless interviewer so looking to offload that). In the unlikely event you decide to attend, don’t expect any ballads. I may publish my review here just for y’all to have a laugh at

The whole Glasto coverage is good filler on a rainy afternoon, I'll give Idles a check later. Good old Eric, still active at his ageOriginally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostSpent the evening being introduced to the mellow sounds of Idles at Glastonbury by my youngest son. Much to be recommended although maybe not for your set on 25-08, MA

RIP John Mayall. First saw him in the early ‘70’s. Last saw him about twelve years ago at Buxton…not far from his place of birth.
Got to 90…and performing until recently. Few have contributed more to the British music scene over the last sixty years.

Indeed. No matter what one’s subsequent tastes, ‘Reach Out I’ll be There’ is just one of those songs that evokes childhood memories…even though we were both only, I think, about 12.Originally posted by MadAmster View PostAlso RIP to Duke Fakir, last surviving original member of the Four Tops.
P.S. Just watched an old Ed Sullivan recording of them. Think it’s where Sunak got his trouser length fashion sense from.

There's also the one that so many people think is called "sugar pie, honey bunch" but is actually "I can't help myself"Originally posted by ramAnag View PostIndeed. Now there’s a name I’ve seen people come to blows over and I don’t mean Evelyn RIPOriginally posted by MadAmster View PostJust seen that Evelyn Thomas of "Weak Spot" fame, a song produced by Ian Levine, has also passed this week. RIP.
I hope that's it for now, 3 artists I enjoyed listening to have shuffled off this mortal coil. Quite enough for now.

Absolutely, Andy. Ian is, indeed, very much a Marmite figure. There's good and bad in us all. Some only see the one or the other. He does have what some see as his "warts" but he has also done a lot for the NS scene. Definitely Marmite.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostNow there’s a name I’ve seen people come to blows over and I don’t mean Evelyn RIP
