I wasn’t familiar with his early stuff, that first cut is a belter

An original will set you back around £700.

I can understand that from a collector POV but I’ll seek it out on CD or pressing

        • There's a legit pressing on Inferno. A few copies available on Discogs.

          • Tuesday evening saw me at the Paradiso in the 'Dam. Support band was a twosome, guitar and drums, playing rock. Not my usual bag but they were entertaining and musically adept. They even did one song they'd recorded in California which featured a gospel choir, they, naturally, had the backing tape with the choir on it and the rock/gospel mix was very good.

Main act was one of my favourites, The Pretenders. Chrissie was, yet again, outstanding. She produced a mixed bag, over an hour and three quarters, of songs from her most recent album, some less recent but not of the hit variety, including one country song, and half a dozen of her classics.

What many people don't know is that they aren't the first group called the Pretenders. there's a US soul band of the same name whose first single was released in 1969, 9 years before Chrissie's version of the band was formed. If anybody's interested, here's the US bands Discogs page showing all their releases and, if you're so inclined, you can click through to hear the songs.

                          • 2024 gigs brought to a close last night with the Zutons and Paul Heaton at a packed out Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham last night.
Both absolutely excellent. Can’t understand why the Zutons, who are now in their twentieth year, haven’t become bigger and, with the greatest respect to the superb Jacqui Abbott, her ‘stand in’ - Rianne Downey - was magnificent. Remember that name, bit of ‘a star is born’ moment.
A really great evening, but Nottingham on a Saturday night! I know I’m getting on a bit but no thanks. Full of sirens and blue flashing lights and the locals looked as if they’d staggered out of a scene from that bar in Star Wars.
Glad to cross the border back to civilisation. Explains a lot.

                            • Possibly because, if I remember well. the Zutons disbanded 15 years ago and have only intermittently performed together since?

In a world of woes, music never disappoints IMO. I can?t say I dwell on either act and I?m not an arena gig type but I totally get why it would be a great gig. Regarding Notts, sounds like a quiet night to be honest but aren?t you thinking of Total Recall?
