Arguably if you were the only bidder at the asking price, not only do you have something that noone else has, but also something that noone else wants!! 😄😄😄

Went to a gig last night, thoroughly enjoyed myself at a ska night.
Support act was the Skadillacs and they were good. Musically tight and the singer was all energy and got the crowd going.
Main act was the Selecter. Last saw them 7 years ago. They are still top performers. The between song chat was highly political. Pauline does NOT like Trump and who can blame her. Both 'er indoors and I liked what was on offer. Good musicianship and Pauline has still got a very good voice.

The record collector in me is happy this afternoon. I have every Ric Tic release and have had ever since I picked up the San Remo Strings - Quanto Sei Bella/International Love Theme for 15 quid 2 years ago. It's a decent enough instrumental but rare as hen's teeth. Pretty certain I could get 500 for it.
There's 2 other Ric Tic releases that got to being pressed but never hit the shops and all copies were melted down... or were supposed to be.
Joyce Webb - Closer to the Blues, would have been Ric Tic 102 if released. A few copies of the issue escaped the melting pot and I have one.
Barbara da Costa - Now I know, would been Ric Tic 103 but also never made the shops. I managed to get hold of a demo copy a few years back.
There's sufficient copies of both around to make them unspectacular in the value stakes
Another planned release that never happened was 106, Terry Warren - I don't know. I am unaware of any issues of this one. Heard rumours about there being a demo but no-one I know on the scene had ever seen one which led one to believe that the rumour was exactly that and, whilst doing some research today, I spotted one had just been put up for sale on Discogs. I got in quickly, just as I did with the San Remo Strings one and it's now on its way to me. Personally never seen one before and I'm hoping that the mark up will be in the same category as Quanto Sei Bella was. I have no idea as to the value of this as it's never been sold on Discogs before and there's only ever been 3, I now know, sold on eBay and those sales were in 2009, 2012 and 2014. I'm hoping that the dearth of copies ever sold equals rarity and that the value has gone up over the years.
There will be those who don't get the whole record collecting thing and the buzz of finding something rare. That's OK.

?but I do, and that?s a fantastic collection.Originally posted by MadAmster View PostThere will be those who don't get the whole record collecting thing and the buzz of finding something rare. That's OK.
My own biggest collection is (almost) the whole Stiff records catalogue. Two differences I guess to your quoted collection - I bought maybe 60% of the collection at the time of release (and half of that on the week of release), and I played most of it to death, hence condition isn?t brilliant
Good effort though, I know there are some belters in there

Then you may have also seen the micro-set (one song, ?Police Car?) of future Mot?rhead guitarist Larry Wallis. I was there too, although maybe not the same venueOriginally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostI went to see the first Live Stiffs tour in 1977. Elvis Costello, Ian Dury, Wreckless Eric, Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe amongst others. A grand day (well, night) our Grommet

It's a fairly recently put together collection. I had a fair few of them back in the day on UK Tamla Motown. Those, along with the rest of my collection disappeared shortly after my first marriage collapsed. Went away for a weekend, came back and they were gone. She claimed not to know anything about their disappearance... she did.
Nearly got one of them back 2 or 3 years ago. Saw the Apollas, Mr Creator up on eBay but only in VG condition. Knew it was mine as I'd, foolishly, written my name on the label. My name in, unmistakably, my scrawl. In the condition it was in, it was probably worth $50. I contacted the seller, in the US, told him the story and offered him $100. He said he preferred to see where it would go in the auction. I put in a snipe bid of $150 as it expired in the middle of our night. Went for $175. Gutted. 3 weeks later, same seller, another copy. Better condition. Got it for $80. Straight in touch with the seller and asked him if he'd contact the previous buyer and ask him if he'd swap. This 2nd copy could go straight to him. Once he received it he could post my old copy to me and I'd pay the postage. Seller claimed not to have the name and address details of the buyer anymore. Gutted.

I have a few (more successful) repurchases in my collection, including a Dictators album bought in Derby, stolen at a party in Heanor and repurchased many years later at a record fair in Lichfield. I also see the occasional Canadian import album for sale that I?m 99% sure I would have sold when I had what I laughingly call ?an import business? back in my 30?sOriginally posted by MadAmster View Post... and a couple of iffy ones if the truth be known.

All good fun but to me what matters is what?s in the grooves not the ?

Loughborough me and I'm cursed that I CAN remember those days in minute and tedious detail, although like you I can't recall 5 mins agoOriginally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostQuite possibly but 45 years on it's hard enough to remember my name let alone one track at a gig. It was in Birmingham that I saw the tourLast edited by Andy_Faber; 12-04-2025, 09:15 AM.

Talking to 2 blokes at the Selecter gig. Topic got round to other bands and one of them mentioned UB40s Red red wine being one of his favourites. Both were gobsmacked to learn that it's a cover.
They covered the reggae version released by Tony Tribe in 1969. The version before that was in 1968 by Jimmy James and the Vagabonds who had covered Neil Diamond's original. ND wrote it too.

Remember that Ric Tic record I posted about 2 weeks ago? Damned thing is still in transit. Started off in Detroit, Michigan. Next scanned in Chicago, Illinois. Then Palatine, Illinois. Then Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Then back to Chicago, Illinois. Then back to Palatine, Illinois. Then Elk Grove Village, Illinois again. Back to Chicago, Illinois. Then Des Plains, Illinois and now it's back in Chicago, Illinois.
Will it ever get here?

Revolve Fest 2025? Looks okay to me…each to their own as far as music is concerned.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostLooking at all your tastes I'm sure my concert of choice last night wouldn't be a popular one.
Was in Nottingham, anyone want to guess who? You might be 'shocked '
