Appreciate that you’re not, but you’re not answering the points raised either.Originally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostAs I said don't think for one minute I'm defending hunting, but I also recall several incidents from childhood where a fox got into hen accomodations and slaughtered everything in the pen - eating maybe half of one and taking none away.

Yup, agreeing with that as someone whos participated in vermin control and seen the impact of it not being carried out (ok decades ago) - disagree with it as a sport, support it as a necessary activity. When all said and done killing is killing, any meat eater here is a hypocrite if they try to differentiate between one animal and anotherOriginally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostFoxes? Innocent animals? Have you ever kept chickens?
Don't get me wrong, I hate hunting with a vengeance due to the arrogance of those involved thinking they can go where they want, trampling growing crops, scaring young kids and believing it's their inalienable right to do so, but don't get caught up in the innocence of foxes

Ive heard the argument before that if you eat meat you can't be against cruelty to animals, but i disagree.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostYup, agreeing with that as someone whos participated in vermin control and seen the impact of it not being carried out (ok decades ago) - disagree with it as a sport, support it as a necessary activity. To suggest you can't be against, fox hunting, trophy hunting, poaching elephants for their ivory, dog fighting, bull fighting, killing cats for fun, strapping a hamster to a firework and so on just because you eat meat is a very poor argument.

Hmmm. Have to disagree, in fact I’d also suggest that that’s a late contender for the daftest comment of the year. Think about it.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostWhen all said and done killing is killing, any meat eater here is a hypocrite if they try to differentiate between one animal and another

Indeed, a wild animal in a totally unatural situation, faced with limitless food, ratherperhaps like a child let loose in a sweet shop? Though attributing human values, behaviour etc onto an animal is a false premise.Originally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostAs I said don't think for one minute I'm defending hunting, but I also recall several incidents from childhood where a fox got into hen accomodations and slaughtered everything in the pen - eating maybe half of one and taking none away.
A Fox is neither innocent or guilty, occasionally numbers need humane control, fox hunting is neither humane or an effective method of controlling populations.

AS someone who volunteers on a nature reserve, I spend a lot of time educating visitors as to why dogs are only permitted in certain areas and why especially during February to July whenever they are out in the countryside they should keep them on a lead. But thast not about "banning" them.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostMakes me laugh Farage in the defence of hunts said we might aswell ban dog walking as dogs might chase rabbits, deer, sheep etc. It's very different and my message to Nigel is if he is incapable of controlling his dogs then he shouldn't be a dog owner.

Mm for a start Fox Hunting is not a necessary activity, being inefficient as vermin control. Its entirely possible to humanely control animals that are causing damage. I dislike the term vermin its an antiquated term used to justify killing animals that threaten other animals that are generally being raised to be shot as "sport".Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostYup, agreeing with that as someone whos participated in vermin control and seen the impact of it not being carried out (ok decades ago) - disagree with it as a sport, support it as a necessary activity. I have absolutely no problem with killing for food, I would certainly make it part of education that people saw for themselves how animals were raised, killed and processed for food. I suspect that a good proportion would stop eating meat!
But its hardly hypocritical to be against killing any animal in a manner which is so obviously cruel and causes suffering.

Its in the Daily Fail, so I wouldn't rely on the slant put on it by that rag, they twist any action into their own agenda and most of what they report is at best a twisted version of whats happened and at worst complete fiction, made up by their right wing lunatic so called journos.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostDon't know much about him but seems a huge own goal at a time there is so much focus on what people post online.

Not withstanding the fact that Hunting Foxes with dogs is illegal, except in specific circumstances and trail hunting was permitted, where they lay a scent for the dogs to follow, giving the same if not better sport. However, many "die hard" Hunts intentionally abused that and used trail hunting as a cover to continue hunting Foxes. So these tightening of the law is thier own fault.Originally posted by ramAnag View PostHmmm.
