Must be awful to be in that position.
    I agree and don't.

It is tragic, but lets get this right. They are escaping from France. No one made them take that journey and pay that money.
It is cherry picking at any cost, for the most gain. As I said, they are tightening up the leaks in Europe and saying no to hand outs. These crossings will get more intense and frequent, as they scramble for the best slice of pie.

True no one made them, but no one made those billionaires get on a yacht in adverse weather conditions or those who got in a tin can to visit the titanic, but both of those recieved far more coverage than these incidents do. tragic accidents yes but no more tragic than these incidents.

They are human beings after all and I don't think any of us who post on here can possibly imagine the desperation.

I agree something needs to be done but I don't know the answer, it's a mess because people need help but how do you offer it other than provide a safe haven.

But explain themselves they will.
Funny how up to yet, Government priorities seem to be Paying out to their union paymasters/ having a go at smokers/ picking on pensioners and now the latest rants are sorting out islamophobia and having a go at the Israeli, government
The truth always outs itself. Tick tock.
Oh no I don’t what? You’ve raised issues and when they’re proved incorrect or unfounded you run back to your anti Islamic stance to create more bother.
The whole of your post is hopelessly flawed. This current government hasn’t yet been in power for two months. The Tories were in power for 14(!) years, including about three where they were led by, at best, an unashamed liar and at worst, a crook.
Another way of describing ‘paying out their Union paymasters’ might be - settling long running pay disputes, ‘having a go at smokers’ - continuing the previous government’s policy in a way many, including AF, agree with, ‘picking on pensioners’ getting rid of a policy which GP described as unsustainable and which penalises those (like me!) who can most afford it but not those in real need, ‘having a go at Israel’ - name a government which has, over the last eleven months, managed to find a solution or encourage the Israelis to seek a peaceful solution.

This government may be far from perfect but you are just sh1t stirring at every opportunity.

I think from what I've read that you like me think every life lost in whatever circumtance is an equal loss/tragedy. IMO its the media that decide which ones are more 'important' than others, and they do it just to generate interest in their allocated timeslots and the gullible public lap it up.

What you say about the Tories I won't deny. Though when it comes to **** stirring a government, you win the gold sunshine

But look at what you've said.
            Liars, crooks.

I think in 8 weeks the pattern has already been set for a repeat of that. If you want to deny that, and need a list , I'll gladly give it.

But asked if Tuesday's tragedy had put him off, he admitted he was a little conflicted, saying "it's difficult to decide. If I could go to any other country in Europe, and get a resident permit..."

"You would stay there?" he was asked.

"Yeah, [if] a country gave me a resident permit, I would stay. The problem is currently in Europe many people are getting rejected."

And there you have it, so many people getting rejected in Europe, that they are flooding this way.

I will feel free. It doesn't look good does it?
From our fully costed and accounted manifesto?
Not only was everyone lied to over finance, we now have policies beeing implemented that weren't even in the bloody manifesto.

Every time one pops up, I'm going to rant about it, just like you did. Lets how long you keep defending them.

Maybe I could do a better job, Swale calls me thicky,
But if Rayner, who left school with more kids than qualifications can be deputy leader, it sounds easy?

Go ahead Tricky…you’ll have to go a bit to catch up with the likes of - amongst others - Chris Pincher, Imran Khan, Peter Bone, Scott Benton, William Wragg, Neil Parish, David Warburton, Charlie Elphick, Matt Hancock, Dominic Cummings and, of course, the liar supreme…good old Boris…but feel free, you rant away.

What Swale calls you has absolutely nothing to do with me. We’re not a double act, although I agree with much of what he says and I think he makes a great deal of sense, infinitely more than you, but I don’t do ‘name calling’ and he’s not alone is he…I mean only this morning our moderator was calling him Sweardale. It’s a bit like the Tories…the ‘leader’ sets the tone… .

I’m not a massive fan of Rayner myself, but I suspect most people will find your comments enormously patronising. She may not have gone down the most conventional of routes, have northern vowels and drop a few h’s…but, to the best of my knowledge, she hasn’t broken the law, bullied or abused anyone and seems rather more in touch with ordinary people than the likes of Rees-Mogg.

                    • But is being in touch with ordinary people what those people want. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'd sooner have a politician I can look up to (an they have been in short supply for a long time). Both intellectually and experientially

Ashton is a place I know well, played rugby for them for two seasons, and I suspect Ms. Rayner is in touch with the local electorate - so ticking the ‘experiential’ box - and making it no coincidence that she got many more votes than Reform UK and the Tories put together at the recent election.

I understand your desire to look up to a politician ‘both intellectually and experientially’ (one might add ethically too) but the best current example of that for me is Keir Starmer and certainly doesn’t include any of the current Tory leadership candidates.

I'm actually (I know you're going to think I'm taking the P*** but I'm not') of the 'give her a chance' faction in respect of her current role, it will be interesting to see how often she's wheeled out in front of other national leaders etc - in theory her perceived 'roughness round the edges' shouldn't translate across national boundaries IF she knows what she's talking about. Good luck to her (genuinely) on that score.

She is, however, already getting on my ***s parrotting out the same old **** £22bn/Truss/Tories Crashed The Economy/Black Hole blah blah, that will start working against HMG if persisted with and she sounds like she's reading it off a cue card

                            There, a bit of balance

My tone may not be to your liking but I am paying a bit more attention now rA, witness a post being deleted last week for racial stereotyping. As for that nickname, it was meant as a bit of fun but if one person on the board is offended by it, I won't use it again, despite it relating to someone who managed to answer a recent question by describing the questioner as 'racist, xenophobic and bigotted', without actually answering the question. As I said, I'll not use the nickname again, and I think I'll include not allowing insulting nicknames in my new 'tone'. I'm guessing that'll mean a lot more deleted posts but hey ho thanks for the suggestion

                              • Yes, the good old "We inherited a Tory [insert issue] crisis..." maxim s already beginning to sound grating/desperate/an excuse even if there is some truth in it.

She needs to grow a pair and say how they are going to sort it, but kicking the can of tax hikes down the road doesn't cut it. Give us the bad news, we're all grownups.

Start with reversing the irresponsible NI cuts made during the last 12 months.

Then maybe a train drivers and doctors surtax ☺️. Anyone remember that!
