That little run from Horseley Church is surely green belt so good luck. Hopefully if it does go ahead it?s more successfully developed than the disaster next to my property in Belper - pulled down as substandard, half rebuilt and now the developers have gone belly up, 7 years an eyesoreOriginally posted by SithHappens View PostYeah traffic won't be great.
Local amenities too such as schools and doctors will have more strain on them.
There is a meeting at the chapel next week to discuss further. There is a date in November set for getting objections in.
They are trying to get it reclassified as grey belt of course, doesn't seem to meet the requirements from what I've seen. Seems grey belt is supposed to be land thats derelict but sits within the green belt. I wouldn't describe the area they are looking to build on as poor quality or previously developed. I know there are other rules such as sustainability they will probably use to push it through.
As you say though I think they will get the go ahead anyway despite objections.

General Election here in 16 days' time. One of the major policy points is housing. Estimated 420K looking for a dwelling. Lots of plans from the various parties as to how to solve it.
Most are for easing regulations making it easier to get permission to build.
The VVD (Blue Tories) also wants building companies to build lots of new homes, most of which would be in the more expensive bracket. I can't, for the life of me, think why
CDA (Christian Democrats, a slightly to the right centre party) want to get the very many empty buildings renovated to create housing without having to use agricultural land. They also favour a bit by bit extension. Adding a street or two to a village or a new estate to towns. For both avenues there is existing infrastructure in roads, shops, doctors, schools etc
D66, another centre party but slightly left leaning wants all of the above plus they plan to get 10 new towns built. A tad over ambitious IMO.
GL/PvdA, party of the working class, wants all of the above. When it comes to renovating office buildings etc that owners are expressly leaving empty to avoid costs and watching the value rise, they will resort to compulsory purchase for owners unwilling to make the change.
PVV (Reform) want to lower rents, reduce the number of rules, build lots of houses. Another of their policies is to dismantle the Media Park in Hilversum where the NOS (Dutch BBC) and all the independent broadcasters have their offices and studios and turn it into homes. He doesn't like the media as they keep telling the truth about the weaknesses of his policies.

Repurposing/renovating empty/poorly used buildings is cracking idea, I Beth Sith can think of a few in Kilburn. It?s been my ?hobby? for decades but it won?t appeal to the big guns who can make a difference to new housing numbers as they prefer the ?cookie cutter? approach (albeit new estates these days look better than 60s/70s ones)Originally posted by MadAmster View PostGeneral Election here in 16 days' time. There isn't lots in Kilburn. The obvious one is the methodist chapel but it's listed i believe and there was plans to turn it into 13 flats.
Not sure what happened with those plans as there was no planned parking, they were going to aim them at cyclists (lol)
The tar pits has been talked about for years although I think that's green belt too. At one point they were talking of thousands of homes to rival oakwood.

Yes the chapel is the obvious one, last time I moseyed through there were a couple of shops/spaces above shops that looked like candidates, maybe they are used now. The old pub (?) on chapel street was being developed, did that become housingOriginally posted by SithHappens View PostThere isn't lots in Kilburn. It's a learning centre I believe for young people who have had challenges.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostYes the chapel is the obvious one, last time I moseyed through there were a couple of shops/spaces above shops that looked like candidates, maybe they are used now. The old barbers is still empty but only a small space really.

Wow, we agree! Though whether the ‘new estates’ will still look acceptable in fifty to sixty years is debatable (none of us will know).Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostRepurposing/renovating empty/poorly used buildings is cracking idea, I Beth Sith can think of a few in Kilburn. All for responsible repurposing of old factories and redundant office blocks/shops etc into housing.

So he has applied pressure to "Bibi", after being embarrassed by the Doha bombing which he was informed of after the fact, but could have done this with a better outcome in January after taking office. Trump's "peace plan" has no mechanism for addressing the issues that created the situation, including as you say the occupation of the West bank and the denial of self determination to the Palestinians.Originally posted by MadAmster View PostCredit to 47 for getting a temporary cease fire in place. And that, thus far, is all it is. A temporary halt to the bombing.
Like most folk, I really hope this becomes a permanent peace. However, alongside the 20 points in the plan, there's one, IMO, pressing problem that needs to solved if there is to be lasting peace. That is almost 80 years in which "settlers" have stolen land from Palestinians in Israel, bulldozed their homes or simply taken them over, burning and bulldozing of Palestinian olive groves, assault and murder of Palestinians. All without any settler being arrested, tried and, if found guilty, sentenced and jailed. It is this that is one of the major reasons Hamas exists. Failure to remedy it will see more attacks on Israeli Jews and Zionists which will instigate more bombing of Gaza and the West Bank.
If the root cause isn't addressed, we will get the same outcome.
Welcome back to a levelled Gaza and it seems one still where Hamas has a significant presence. So 60,000+ civilians, plus countless 1,000's injured has achieved precisely **** all!!
Its welcome that Israel has stopped bombing civilians, with weapons supplied by the US and UK amongst others, but Israel isn't being held to account for it flagrant breaches of international law and Hamas is still armed and dangerous. Plus ca change!!

Just got back from a magnificent performance of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ at Nottingham Playhouse.
Utterly brilliant production of one of my all time favourite books.
Sad though that the climate regarding race relations is now less optimistic than I felt it to be when I first read it sometime in the late sixties/early seventies.
As an aside…also got back from a month in Spain a week ago. During the whole 28 days when we went out just about every other day I spent a grand total of 7 euros on parking and that included being stung for 6 euros on our last day at Segovia Catherdral.
Today, parking with Q Park in Nottingham between 12.30 and 4.30 cost 13.20GBP and that is likely to go up to 17.50GBP because we over ran by 20 mins. Why do we put up with such complete rip offs in this country?
