Looking at loan, signing on, transfer and agents fees from January onwards and into this window, I reckon we've spent 15M, maybe more. Cashin fee rumoured to be 10M but was that with or without add ons?

As the club now falls under the umbrella of Clowes developments, they are still making profits despite having filled the 15M black hole from year 1, 10M hole year 2 and however much last season's hole was. There's the added bonus of the hole filling reducing CD's tax liability.

        I'm guessing there's 2 possibilities here.

        1. Mr Clowes and family are happy that there's still profit despite filling DCFC holes and that they are budgeting within that framework

        2. There is inward investment sorted and that will be announced once the window has closed to avoid clubs trying to rip us off due to the new money.

        Que sera, sera.

        • Just watched the "welcome" videos of Sanderson and Clark. The lack of saying it was a no brainer alongside not mentioning liking the sound of "the project" has endeared them to me.

          • Sanderson's signing provides cover for Nelson, who informed sources say won't be fit this side of Xmas.

That’ll be the best part of a year then. Feel for him. Ever present during the promotion season I think and still one of Paul Warne’s two best signings imo. On the plus side…an excellent player to come back into contention for the business end of the season.

              • A stat that may interest you RA, I was reading an article somewhere, can't remember where, it may even have been the Gruaniad which stated that only about 40% of all football transfers are successful. Which is a sobering thought, and probably explains why many managers, especially at championship level and below like to recruit players they have worked with before, a notable tendency with both Warne and Eustace.

I guess adding these to the mix at least means there is a core of players who "buy in" to the Head Coach/manager's philosophy.

Interesting, but I hope the familiar signings Eustace has made prove better than Warne’s because I don’t think his ex Rotherham signings were great…Adams, Nelson and JWZ being his best imo.

Well Eustace has two main advantages over Warne, he is a better coach at this level and seems able to attract better quality players, something MA alluded to, (though whether its Eustace or the wages offered that attracts them is a moot point) and has rather more funds to ply with than Warne had.

It will be interesting to see how the season unfolds, Eustace certainly got the squad last season firing after 3 games, so the hope is he can improve on that after one windows recruitment. Undoubtedly with the latest recruits, there will be some that fail, some that get injured and some that are slow burners!

Indeed. Actually we may have been unfair over the Rotherham connection. We seemed to be linked with plenty but I can only think of two - Washington (who was an awful signing) and Vickers (who has done everything asked of him as a back up keeper).
Either way, I have a great deal more confidence in Eustace, but he has, as you say, been blessed with far more in the way of financial support.
The difference between this season and last now is that the quality of recent signings will have raised expectations. Last season most realistic fans would have been happy with survival to mid table. After the four signings of recent days expectations will be higher (unrealistically for some) and JE will have to manage that.

                      • I have been told that Daj Brown has been informed he can go out on loan this season.

The evidence such as it is from pre-season seems to indicate that we are on the right course and after spending reasonable sums, then a comfortable mid table season is probably the minimum required. But other teams have spent big, plus the relegated 3, so its a very competitive division again. Fans need to be realistic, but I fear many won't be.

Not knowing who he is, I did a search and found a Football League World article claiming we'd put a ?5M bid in for the lad. As it's FLW that will have been sucked from somebody's thumb and has no credibility wotsumdivva.

                              • I believe I read somewhere that Chelsea want 5m for him, which is far different from the FLW spin on it!
